Toronto guard opens Raps' eyes
Lets just hope he gets signed to a summer league deal and makes a team
Quote:
Two point guards expected to be taken at far different points of the NBA draft impressed the Raptors yesterday at the Air Canada Centre.
It wasn't surprising that University of Connecticut floor general Marcus Williams, expected to go anywhere from fourth to 15th in the June 28 draft, looked good in the Raptors' third workout for draft-eligible players this week. But it was the play of ex-Eastern Commerce star Jermaine Anderson, a long shot to be picked at all after a solid career playing both guard spots at Fordham University in Bronx, N.Y., that caught the attention of the assembled Raptors brass.
"(Anderson) was very impressive," Raptors scout Bob Zuffelato said. "We were all pleasantly surprised. He held his own against one of the premier point guards in the (U.S.)."
Anderson believes he can compete with anyone.
"Canadians can play with anybody in the world," he said. "I'm just hoping to be an example of that."

Re: Toronto guard opens Raps' eyes
is this just a case of the raps being polite, or does this guy actually have NBA potential?

Re: Toronto guard opens Raps' eyes
^ The Raps usually give a number of Canadian kids workouts. I remember Nate Dorneykamp (Boston College) was invited last year though there was virtually no chance of him making the team.

Re: Toronto guard opens Raps' eyes
Yeah, it's true the Raptors usually give Canadians workouts, but I don't recall ever reading an article like this about one of them. Hopefully in Anderson's case it's different and he actually had an impact when he went to the workout.

Re: Toronto guard opens Raps' eyes
unfortunately for the narrator, its looking like williams isnt in any of the raps draft day scenarios...i mean 2 important personnel have already made public statements on a guy who isnt a solid consesus pick from where the raps are likely to be drafting from...so y would the raps show their hand, so to speak, if marcus was one of their guys, unless its a smokescreen (even though to me, its a painfuly obvious smokescreen)? looks like a no go imo, for m williams to the raps..
