Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?

The talk is Bargnani's camp will put out word he could return to Europe -- like Orlando pick Fran Vasquez did last year -- if he's not a Raptors pick. That should scare off the top teams.

Re: Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?
This is quite interesting in comparison to what usuall occurs. For example, last year Gerald green did not want anything to do with he Raptors. He and his family even cheered two imes when toronto drafted someone else. It is nice to be the desied team for once.

Let's pick up a late first round pick and let everyone ignore Bargnani and pick him up late.
I wish.

Re: Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?
I like the sound of that. Not too sure how reliable the source is, though.
Even though most people here would shudder at the thought of drafting another offensive-minded power forward, there could be worst things than a frontline of Bosh, Bargnani, and Villanueva. He's easily a top 3 pick in terms of talent (may even be #1 if he was an American college player).
We all know BC loves him and stated he wants more international players. BC also stated he's not going to fill in our void at C or PG in the draft (thus, passing on Marcus Williams and Patrick O'Bryant). Bargnani can easily play Matt Bonner's 20-plus minutes and Bonner can take over Eric Williams' garbage time.
Imagine the match-up problems a line of Villanueva, Bosh, and Bargnani would cause.

Re: Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?
Puts us in a tough spot if we win one of the top three picks though, doesn't it?
Bargnani is the best draft prospect this year? Better than Aldridge, TT, etc.?
I'm not at all surprised that we are looking hard in his direction but I hope we don't get piegonholed as a result of our new Italian connections.

Re: Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?
didnt we see this coming with the colangelo hiring of barganis gm as our new assistant? i think colangelo mos def has bargani as number one option for raptors, i wouldnt be surprised if new gm assistant is the inbetween guy for the two camps? it just seems were setting everything up to get bargani over here. im excited, hes gonna be a stud.

Re: Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?
if we win a top 3 pick, perhaps we can trade it for 2 lower draft picks? eg, if new york (chicago) gets 2 lower picks than us, we can trade our pick and eric williams for their pick and the 16th pick..

Re: Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?
i always wanted this guy...for me it was between Bargnani and Gay... its not like we need a franchise player, so the pressure will not be too great on either one of them...

If we take him, we're really going to be testing the "put your five best players on the floor" theory. Should be fascinating if nothing else.

Re: Bargnani wants to be a Raptor?
I think its kind of a wastfull pick imo, like the hawks taking marvin williams. We should draft a starter that fills a need with a top 5 pick. Im all for taking him in the mid to late first round or the second round though. Maybe he will fall like Lampe did a couple years ago. (i hope he isnt another lampe though)

Exactly! People are raving about the matchup problems this would cause, but have they forgotten so quickly that the thing the Raps have lacked the past 2 seasons is defense? Yes, he's a good player and would cause huge matchup problems on one end of the court, but we'd give up 110+ a game if we started Bosh, Bargnani and Villanueva. And even if he doesn't start, we won't get any better than last season on D. If we don't want Brandon Roy, Shelden Williams, or Rudy Gay at the 5 slot, we should trade the pick.
