Ben Wallace - Poll
With some talk in the media that Toronto will express interest in Wallace.
If nothing else than to drive up the price for the Pistons.
What do you guys (and gals) think is a acceptable price for us to spend on Wallace.
Keeping in mind that Wallace has been in the league for a full decade and will be 32 when the season starts this fall.

Re: Ben Wallace - Poll
We have always needed/wanted a Ben Wallace and now we have a chance to get him, IMO give him as much as he wants... he does so much on the floor that doesn’t show up on the stat line... how many teams can say they have a player with Ben's qualities... NOT MANY.

The argument is that all his abilities are relying on athleticism, he is beyond his peak and will decline, the gamble is how fast? How many years? Is the max worth it for a player that will be useless his last 2 years of the contract?
On top of that, his offense is so weak that it can become a liability for the whole team, even if we have so much offensive arsenal right now.
I like him, I'd like to have him on the team, question is how long? If I could, I'd give him max for 3 years or 4 with a team option.

Re: Ben Wallace - Poll
The average Career spend of a nba star is 13-14 seasons, and typically there is significant decline in the last two seasons. I see Wallace as a win now type of signing. A team is essentially buying Wallace's services for the next two years at the cost of eating the last three years (call it the cost of doing business). Most GMs knows this.
Where wallace will be of most value is in aiding the development of a young defensive big man. Orlando for example would be a great fit.

Re: Ben Wallace - Poll
Anything less than your 80% of the Max, 5 yrs, last year team option would be robbing him. He has won countless awards for his defence and bring a presence like no other player in the league. If anything the Raptors should make the Pistons pay as much as possible and drive up the price of Wallace.

Re: Ben Wallace - Poll
like everything else, it's so hard to even have an opinion here. i don't know if we could really use a player like wallace considering all the decisions left to be made (namely our first-rounder, but also ukic/slokar and mj issues). that's not to suggest we couldn't use him, only to say that it may not be as practical and/or necessary as we think. depending on what else we want to do, we might be better served to look elsewhere with that money.
that said, it is important for me to point out that i'm not a big ben fan myself. i think i do appreciate what he brings but i don't think i'd want him to run the floor alongside chris and charlie. yeah, we'd have a more conventional frontcourt, but that's not an advantage in itself. i'm not as scared as some others to try something 'new'- especially considering how versatile (and young) chris and charlie happen to be. instead of putting them in a box, i'd definitely rather use their partnered talent to its fullest potential- and if that means surprising some critics and old-school minds with a new approach, so be it.
i'm just really happy with this team. i love how many different directions we can take this train. i mean, i don't want the dpoy playing for us. that's saying something.
peace

Re: Ben Wallace - Poll
The problem for Detroit in the off season is that Ben has been underpaid up to this point in this career so he is looking to get paid for all the things that he has done for Detroit as opposed to all the things he will do in the future.
Ben's agent will use us (and anyone else with Cap Space) in there contact talks with Detroit. It is very unlikely that Ben will go anywhere. Detroit already cleared space for him with the Darko trade. The point of contention will be the length of the contract more than anything else.
