Article: The politics behind Bargnani

Quote:
Andrea Bargnani might not be the consensus number one pick in this year’s draft, but don’t go telling that to Bryan Colangelo. There is little doubt in the minds of draft insiders what name the Raptors new GM wants to hear called when David Stern steps up to the podium to announce the first pick. Making that happen, however, is going to be fraught with the type of intrigue and innuendo that’s the stuff of basketball legends.

"I really like him...to me he's already pretty special," Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki said after continually getting beat to the basket by Bosh. "He's going to be a great player in this league."

"Chris Bosh really has emerged to be a star in this league. There are more than the top three (in the 2003 draft)." - Dwyane Wade

I love everything about him, I love his game, I love his work ethic. He definitely has my approval - Kobe Bryant"

Wow, that's a great find.
Very very interesting article, although it has many speculations it apparently has a lot of truth in it.
BC in your club makes things fascinating, that's for sure.

Re: Article: The politics behind Bargnani

Since the BC hiring there have been almost no negative spin articles about the Raps in American press, which is a 270 degree turnaround from before when everything written about the Raps was doom and gloom. It's feels good being a raps fan when the team is getting some positive reviews in press South of the border.

Back to this thread, yeah the article is really interesting. Thanks for posting it up here.

Re: Article: The politics behind Bargnani

good read. "politics around bargnani"- we haven't had the #1 for a week yet and it's already insane. with the way you have people talking, you'd think that colangelo was involved in one of the most elaborate conspiracies in world history... i'm lovin' it. and the volume is sure to get louder from here.

regardless, i don't care who the gm is for our team, i just don't want our selection to ever be motivated by some pre-existing bias. i wouldn't even care if this were a lebron or shaq draft- we need to do our homework before setting our sights on any one player. personally, i trust that colangelo hasn't yet made up his mind but you never know. if you read enough articles in one day, you'd think that bryan's already printed his draft card with the name "andrea bargnani"... or "tyrus thomas"... or "marcus williams"... or someone else.

can't remember the last time the # 1 had this much mystery surrounding it. everyone seems to have an answer; i'm left wondering what the question is.

peace

Re: Article: The politics behind Bargnani

It's going to be Bargnani at #1 ... and Toronto will have it's Italian Stallion ... but where does this leave Bosh having to share minutes with Bargnani and also depending on Euro guards to pass the ball to him .... bye bye Bosh ... ???!!!!

Looks like the Raptors may be converted into an "international" team with players from Europe and SAmerica plus a few token USians and maybe even a Canadian ... if Colangelo has his way ....

(Of course Toronto could draft Aldridge at #1 and then trade with Chicago drafting Bargnani at #2 plus another player like Ben Gordon in a blockbuster deal and involving more players.)

I wouldn't be worried about anyone taking my minutes if I was Chris Bosh, however I would be if I was Matt Bonner, Hoffa, E-Will or Pape.

Wow, that is the most intelligent post I have ever read of you as of late. That would be great.

just hope they dont start playing rocky music there. to me that was a great article by draftexpress. a guy like bargnani is going to show really well on the european stage because of his skill level, remains to be seen how he adjusts to the eastern conferance though where ghosts of knicks and heat players wrestling against each other in the playoffs still keep me awake at night. as for chris bosh he is the kevin mchale to boston's larry bird, the pairing with bargnani should be no problem at all and if the raptors go totally in the phoenix and dallas mode he can even play center, the guy i would be concerned about fitting in would be villanueva, i doubt they would do anything right now unless they can score one of the top pg's out of the draft but longterm i'm not sure he would fit in there. guess you can never have too many bigmen that can score the ball.
