Why I DON'T want Marcus Williams
He's a decent enough player, but -
I feel his assist totals are hugely inflated by the system he plays in. Connecticut LED THE NCAA in Field Goals per game. It is a chicken and egg situation, and certainly MW contributed to UConn's success. But UConn is always successful, without MW at the helm
National Champs with Taliek Brown 2 years ago logging 6.7 apg. Taliek Brown?
How about Khalid El-Amin? Really quite similar to MW. How did that turn out?
MW has a nice outside shot, and he certainly is a fine field general. His size is also good. I'm sure pretty he will be a little better than Khalid, and he might be another Deron Williams. Who is not, as so many argued he would be, the next Jason Kidd.
I always worry about the quickness of a PG who fails to manage even 1 spg at the NCAA level. Especially when playing in a system with so many possessions per game.
He is really liable to be a reach pick, because of the lack of other PGs.

Re: Why I DON'T want Marcus Williams
Good points. BC has stated that the solution for our PG position isn't in the draft.
I'm pretty sure Marcus Williams isn't even an after thought at #1, and if we trade down to #4 or #5, we would have to pick Gay or Roy before Williams. We still need the BPA in this draft even if it makes Steve A. Smith cry.
On a side note ... I'm still sticking on my idea : trade down to #10, get Luke Ridnour in the process and hope someone falls like Gerald Green and Danny Granger last year. At #10 BC can use all his nose to find a steal.

I doubt the Sonics trade Ridnour. Watson is fine as a backup, but can not be a starting PG. Does not have the playmaking ability.

Well you're probably right, but Seattle should be a good target for BC. They need a little bit of everything and the 1st overall pick would be nice for them IMO. But in the end the need to give something.
Earl Watson & one of Johan Petro or Robert Swift could be a decent return also.
But I'm going out of topic ... Marcus Williams shouldn't be in BC's plans for sure.
Man ! ... Swift is ugly as sin !

Way too undersized and unathletic for the NBA game, I did love him at UCONN though.

Re: Why I DON'T want Marcus Williams
Marcus Williams was a playmaker though. VERY different to merely passing to an opening guy who makes the shot. Let's not act like he was on a team with offensive wunderkinds last year.
If there's a good reason not to like him, it would be because if you picked him, it would be a pretty big reach.

Agreed. If you picked him 20th or something I wouldn't have a problem. But because of the scarcity of good PGs, he's lottery bound for sure.

Re: Why I DON'T want Marcus Williams
Disagree on that. Maybe in the previous 3 drafts he'd be around #20, but in this crop he is easily top 10, and the best PG on the board.

Re: Why I DON'T want Marcus Williams
See, that's my point.
In previous years, a PG of his ability goes where? 20th or so.
Because this draft is weak in star PGs, the best thing to NOT DRAFT ONE.
Stick to wings and PFs early. Pick up a PG prospect late.
BTW, it is very likely that Rajon Rondo will eventually be a much better NBA PG than MW. But he is a bit of a project for now, and there is some risk his poor shooting form will be a career limiting problem. His length and quickness are simply sick, he is a freak of nature, and he has a PG mentality.
