Morrison vs. Gay, June 21, Toronto?
Quote:
Morrison loves high-stakes competition, from hoops to poker to Xbox. He craves it, so getting NBA players to workout with makes the most sense to him. He wants Bartelstein to set up workouts against his competitors at every stop. He'll get Memphis' Rodney Carney at Charlotte on Monday (the Bobcats pick No. 3 overall), and he might get Rudy Gay of Connecticut in Portland (No. 4) on June 15 and Toronto (No. 1) on June 21 -- and wouldn't mind seeing either one of them in Chicago (No. 2) on June 19, either. Morrison lit up both Gay's and Carney's clubs during the regular season, even though the Zags lost both games (versus UConn in Maui and at Memphis).
"Having NBA players in here can get him that experience and get him ready to play," George said.
Granger came in for one day a few weeks ago just to work out with Morrison and has since returned for a more regular routine.
"It's good for him to play against [us] and we're helping each other out," Granger said.
Before Morrison gets started, he takes us through his required diabetic equipment that is stashed in a bag along the sideline...

rudy gay is awesome. not sure if he's what we need, but he's an electrifying player to say the least.

I think the both of them are awesome, but neither are a good fit for our team.
Its strange how much media attention Morrison is getting. I wouldn't be suprised if he quickly becomes one of thoe most marketable players on whichever team he plays.

Re: Morrison vs. Gay, June 21, Toronto?
If these are one on one workouts I really don't think that bodes well for Morrison. He will get it done on offense but he will get absolutely torched by Rudy Gay on defense.

How is a 6'9 forward who can defend 1-3, rebounds well, blocks shots, steals and who is electrifying on the break not a good fit for our team.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Gay avoid this workout confrontation.

Re: Morrison vs. Gay, June 21, Toronto?
thats hard to see since rudy gay is arleady slated for like 3 workouts with adam? i think with blazers and then bulls. either way i dont think theres much point in him skipping one workout unless he dodges all three. but then rudy is not the type to do that, hes already coming out strong trying to prove his worth so i dont think he'll be playing the running away game.

Re: Morrison vs. Gay, June 21, Toronto?
this would be fantastic to watch. by the time june 21 rolls around these players will be more cemented in their draft positions than they are now. there's no doubt that they'll be massively motivated for the workout. i'd love to see it.
on a completely different topic, i wonder if bryan and sam are asking v for his opinion on rudy? we do have that asset, a player who actually competed with one of these blue-chippers. scouting reports would fly out the window (for me) if charlie were willing to give an objective, unbiased account of rudy's... everything.
peace

Re: Morrison vs. Gay, June 21, Toronto?
I don't get too excited by one on one workouts. Basketball is a game of interactions between five players. Some are good at playing off the strenghts off others, and using there own strenghts and hiding weaknesses, by using their teammates as much as possible.

Re: Morrison vs. Gay, June 21, Toronto?
Why couldn't NBATV be more like NFL Network and show all the pre-draft workouts and such.
Could you imagine how much hoopla and hype would go into this workout if it was televised.
Wouldn't even be surprised if it was a primetime show.

Re: Morrison vs. Gay, June 21, Toronto?
Gay is a loser. A talented loser. Attitude counts for a lot. Drive and competitiveness too. Speedy said it too. I'm not for Morrison necessarily, but certainly over Gay.
