But he is not a shooting guard. He is not a Brent Barry. A smaller Jaric, I would say, but even Jaric has more range on his jumper than Roko.

When Bones Barry was first in the NBA he played at the point guard spot very regularly.....he is a very good passer, his role has changed as his carrer has aged, but I can see some similarities.
I see Ukic as a slightly more energetic version of the Bulls Ron Harper...a big point guard that gets the job done, with the ability to put the ball in the hoop as well.

Re: Toronto Sun: Raps pick wants out of Spain
the highlights of his recent big game have been posted in the realgm forum in the "ukic wants to come over' thread.
looked pretty good shooting from the outside and got into the lane pretty well. nifty spin move. showed some quicks staying with an opponent fast breaking with the ball.
i like him showing desire to come over. he's got to get in the gym and start learning at an nba level. he shouldn't be an expensive addition either- for 3 years.

Re: Toronto Sun: Raps pick wants out of Spain
I haven't seen any clips of him since last draft, I hope he put on some pounds in the past year
He probably regrets signing such a long contract(4years), now that he will probably have to work that amount off

Ukic with 15 points (FG 4/7, FT 5/6), 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 0 turnovers in 33 minutes tonight againts Barcelona in playoff semifinal. He is starting PG now and is playing exceptionaly well, so he might change his opinion regarding staying in Spain for one more year. Until now he was sitting on the bench mostly, so is natural he wanted to get out of there. With possible departure of team leaders Pablo Prigioni and Luis Scola, Ukic would be thier go-to-guy next year.

That's what I'm afraid of...
But even he does decide to stay in Spain, his arrival was at first thought to be next year at least due to the opt-out in his contract clause. No harm, no foul I suppose if Roko enjoys the starting limelight (at least, for me, that is).

I'm definetely not sold on Calderon, and I think people overrate his potential.... i.e limited.
Like James. Underrated of course. Everybody hates him

He's only starting b/c Prigioni is hurt no? My understanding is that he has been marginalized all year, where he thought he would be given more of an opportunity to showcase his skill.
Ukic's shooting my not be perfect, but from what I've seen (very little...like most people here) he is a substantial threat in the lane. This is where calderon struggled IMO, he was never much of a threat b/c he couldn't finish in traffic in the NBA. Once he drove people knew he would struggle to get his shot off. Too much is made of an average shooting touch. Tony Parker isn't lights out, but his ability to finish makes his drive and dish/shoot game unpredictable. And Ukic was compared to TP before last years draft if memory serves me correctly (Not that it is an exact science).

Calderon is great. I do agree that peopel overrate his potential, but I can see him as a consistent starter.
James on the otherhand was really underrated. I'm not sure why everyone on this board seems to hate on Mike, but he's a great slasher, and scorer that posesses the kind of killer insticnt that I'd like to see in more of our players. He's also a hard worker. I think he's got some great qualities.

Awesome. Seems like his best all-round game yet. Going from EXTREMELY little playing time to good playoff performances is very impressive indeed. Did they get the win?
I think it's a win win situation with Roko. If we bring him over, he gets to adjust to the NBA a year earlier- accelerating his physical training and getting some backup minutes (I keep using Beno Udrih as a measuring stick for his rookie season).
If he stays with Tau, it means they want him and want him playing next season. With Splitter still there this would only be a great experience for young Roko, provided he gets minutes of course.
Playing time or no, it looks like he has come along this season in terms of running a team and playing solid basketball against better competition. BC has to judge whether this is the best time to bring him over- financially and developmentally.
On a side note, with Splitter pulling out of the draft, does that make him a free agent after next season? If so, some money should definitely be saved for him... but draftexpress has him in their 2007 mock so i guess not.

They won 84:78, they were down by 17 during 3rd quarter by came back thanks to impressive shooting from former Hawk Travis Hansen, Roko participated in the run by dishing out assists on 3 possesions in a row.

CANOE: Ukic Likely in Rap Uniform for 06/07
Quote:
The Croatian point guard's agent, Marc Cornstein, met Raptors president/general manager Bryan Colangelo yesterday at NBA pre-draft camp for a preliminary discussion. A second-round pick of the Raptors in 2005, Ukic decided to sign a four-year deal with Tau Ceramica of Spain last summer and currently is involved in Spanish League playoffs.
But the 6-foot-5 Ukic has made it clear to Cornstein that his desire is to play in the NBA next season and the agent is in the process of trying to make that happen.

NBADRAFT.NET PROFILE
A player with shocking talent ... Mature with great experience over the course of his career ... He's got a rare talent .. Has the size to play the shooting guard position, but handles the point position very well ...

It will take some cash to buy him out of the last 3 yrs of that deal but the bottom line is he wants out. And perhaps like the toronto situation better now that Skip/MJ is not here and now that BC is here.
