Who Do We Want?
This may not be thread worthy for most people, but it is to me.
I am really starting to think, WHO THE HELL DO WE WANT ON THIS TEAM. It really seems as though, any player mentioned in any trade rumour, that isnt named Lebron James or Dwayne Wade, is not wanted by the major populous on this board. We keep looking for that "perfect" player, who through the past week has me wondering, "who are you?" and "where the hell can we find you". In all honestly i dont think that player exists, in todays NBA. So do just keep going forward with the players on thsi team, and become like the Minnesota Timberwolves?
This board seems to shoot down every player who earns 10+ for the year, but at the same time wouldnt mind paying a player like Pryzbilla for 10+, who has not really shown me much to warrant that. I think the posters on this site need to start looking at players, and thinking what could they do for our team, rather then just looking at their contracts, because truthfully there isnt the perfect player, who doesnt earn 6 figures, and plays great. and even if you do find one, youll be hard pressed to pry him away from the opposing team.
What do you guys think?

Re: Who Do We Want?
I think you make a good point, adhir.
1. Raptors fans want a big man who can defend, block some shots, crash the boards, run on the primary or secondary break, and can make open shots but not demand the ball on offense. A superior role player, young, inexpensive, hard working, unselfish, mature. At least 6'10", at least 250#.
Name one centre that fits the above description!
2. Raptors fans want a point guard who will orchestrate the offense, create scoring opportunities for Bosh, Villanueva, and Peterson, pass first (and second) before shooting, and look to push the tempo. Good defender, respectable size at the position, nice handle, reliable outside jumpshot, can work the pick and roll with Bosh, can create for himself, can finish in traffic. A superior role player, young, inexpensive, hard working, unselfish, mature. At least 6'2", at least 180#.
Name one point guard that fits the above description!

^ And they must love and say nice things about the city.
Edit: and no history of injury, criminal behaviour, or inconsistency.

Re: Who Do We Want?
Really we want someone who is: cheap, young, and a star.
What we can get, at best, is someone who is two of the three.

That's fine, he can be a PF that guards centers. Bosh can be a PF that guards PF's.
I dunno if I'm the exception to the rule or what (although I suspect everyone in Team Mao's club would agree), all I want to see is a modest, yet significant improvement in some key areas further setting up the franchise for years of real long term playoff contention.
I'll take Dalembert, Pryz, Narz, or Nene, I'll take the team with or without Mike James, Bonner, Pape, MoP, I just want to see development and if I'm lucky maybe Sam will get fired.

Re: Who Do We Want?
Howard played center most of last season and didn't mind at all. His position listing might be PF, but he pretty much guards the other team's centers.

Re: Who Do We Want?
Nobody.
We've got a soon-to-be-all-star calibur player at each position. Theres no point of making any changes.
But seriously, I wouldn't be opposed to either an all-star calibur center or PG, as long as it doesn't cost us Bosh. I'd trade any young talent, and spend as much money as it takes.

Re: Who Do We Want?
I really dont mind any centre that has been rumoured to come to Toronto this season except Magloire because it seems we would be giving up too much. For the pg situation I dont think we necessary need a star, we would probably need someone who can guide calderon and ukic (if he comes over) more.

Re: Who Do We Want?
First of all, I don't think anyone is advocating paying Joel P 10 mill, let alone 10+.
I think, having some cap room to play with, Raps fans now want-
1) a freak in the draft- Bargs, Gay, whatever. I like the guys at the top.
2) a vet PG- I'd actually like to see MJ back. he's dedicated and driven and he can light it up. if you're going to run your offense through your forwards, you want a guard that can shoot. BJax would be a cheaper option.
3) a roleplaying center- this guy doesn't necessarily have to even play big minutes but we want a guy that can bang and block shots. he therefore shouldn't be overpaid. One of Joel or Nazr should come at the right price, I'd think. If not, you go for a guy like DJ Mbenga or Jackie Butler.
4) a young PG- Ukic.
We're not that picky, or at least I'm not. The above doesn't guarantee the playoffs but it gives Mitchell the sufficient pieces to work with IMO. Some cap space might even be saved for the following offseason.

Will you settle for all of that at 6-9?
