If you could choose between 2?
Who would you rather have between Ben Wallace and JO?
There are rumours circulating around that we could be approaching either one this summer.
Each have their own pros and cons.
Big Ben
Pros:- Good Leader
- Better attitude
-More of a Center
-Better Defender
-Will come easier
Cons
-Is older than JO by quite a bit
-Contract will probably expire later.
JO
Pros
Better offensive player
-Younger
-Contract (though long) will end before Ben's if Ben were to get 5 years.
Cons
-Will need to be a sacrifice to get him (i.e. CV or Pick)
-Slight attitude problem
-May whine if traded to TO.
-may not want to play C.
All in all who in your opinion would make the Raptors team better?

Re: If you could choose between 2?
We basically have a JO with Bosh.
We need a big time rebounder, shot blocker and help defender. Ben Wallace last I checked was DPOY for all those things I mentioned.
Sure he is older and his performance against the Heat was less than stellar but we're young and he brings to the table exactly what I said we needed long time ago.
I wouldn't want to sign him to a long-term max though. I don't think he would want to come here either.

Re: If you could choose between 2?
I would do JO over Ben, but it really depends on what we would have to give up. I'm not giving up CV, Bosh, or Mo Pete. I can deal with Graham and anybody else no named Calderon (I don't think they need/want Cal)...
but yeah

Re: If you could choose between 2?
I'm not a huge 'Bring Ben here' guy but I'd rather give him 10-12 per year for four years than give JO 20 million per year.
-Ben plays full seasons.
-Although JO is younger, he's also been in the league for 10 years or more. And his body has taken a beating, especially in those early years when he was still a boy.
-We wouldn't have to give up our #1 pick and/or CV to bring Ben Wallace here.
-I would write something in the contract that requires Ben to work with a free throw shooting coach for so many hours every week.
Still, I'd rather sign a guy like Nene for 8 million a year if the Raptors want to bring in a big this season.

if we make the playoffs next year, we can't trade our 1st rounder cause it isn't ours..
it actually goes to charlotte via cleveland. (lamond murray deal). so if we get in, we'd have no pick in the first round in a relatively deep draft next year

Re: If you could choose between 2?
Ben Wallace, hands down. JO would cost us the 1st, CV, or both.
He may not be as young, but his skill-set is exactly what we need.
I really hope BC overpays to get him... or Terry, considering what he's doing right now in the Finals. We need an impact FA in my opinion. Spending 8 million on Nazr or Przybilla is not the answer.

Re: If you could choose between 2?
it has to be the CLOCK, Big Ben satisfies every need this team, (for lack of a better word) NEEDS. JO, like icehawk said, would cost us the first pick and prolly Charlie, while the only thing that Ben would cost us is our capspace, that we would use regardless. Plus, JO would take shots away from Bosh, and might not agree to playnig second fiddle to Bosh, while Ben would be the man on defense,a nd it would be his team on defense, and he knows he cant do anything on offence, so there isnt a problem there.

Re: If you could choose between 2?
Neither. One is too old, the other is too overrated.

Re: If you could choose between 2?
I have semi-supported the idea of signing Ben Wallace to a deal, preferably not a five-year one but we might not have wiggle room on that if we really want him.
If he was five years younger it would be a no brainer. But then again it would be a lot easier for the Pistons to put that much money into him, you know? Ben seems like the kind of guy who would solve all of our problems but I'm starting to think that a swim coach isn't what this team needs. This team needs to learn to swim by being thrown into the water and forced to keep their heads up.
Almost feels like cheating by adding a guy who would take pressure off our players to improve.

yet the entire board, is against it. its beyond me, that people are actually saying no to signing the best defensive player in the league, to the worst defensive team in the league.
