Re: Blind love for BC
A player who will continue to get buried more and more in the depth chart with the acquisitions of Humphries and what looks to be Bargnani is traded for somene who fills a need is a bad thing? Help me out here.

thank you.
and please don't condemn the salaries until you wait to see what teams are willing to pay Blockzilla, Nazr & Nene. Mind you, its only 3 yrs.
imagine getting stuck with Foyle & Dalembert's contract for 5 yrs......

The cons outweigh the pros IMO, though this statement is if you look at the trade as stand-alone. If this is just a small piece of what's to come (like I suggested, maybe a max-contract player), then my opinion may change.
The fact of the matter is that almost 3/4s of this board were complaining about paying Mike James 6 mil a year, yet they have no problem paying Rasho 2 million more than that despite his productivity being less than a third.

The reason i wouldnt want mike james back was b/c of the way he's been so full of himself and how he would want to play in Houston. They are 2 different players, one will help with the boards and defensive end while the other may continue to ball hog thru games. But yea i agree with you on his contract

Re: Blind love for BC
At first I was a little dissapointed. Rasho alone does not excite the fans. He is boring. Oberto would have brought more intrigue.
But with further review. It is a heck of a move. Rash beat out Oberto all last year. He even beat out Nazr. Sure he didn't put up numbers. But that wasn't his job. And it won't be here. He can be a starter or come of the bench if we still go after another big. But now we don't NEED a big, which means we can make the best decision for the team and not one out of despiration (e.g. drafting an Arraujo just for size). We could still trade for Mags or sign Pryz, but we don't have to. And that is huge.
I liked Bonner. Who didn't? He tried. He could shoot. But he wasn't very good when he was asked to do anything else. In SA he won't be. And we got rid of grumpy Gus. Imagine another whole season with EWill sitting on the bench. I am sure he is a professional. But he would have brought done the whole vibe.
Good move. Provides insurance. No cost to flexibiltiy (If push comes to shove, I am pretty sure Rasho's contract is still moveable to a contender should we not need him anymore down the road).

Re: Blind love for BC
Arraujo (unfortunate bust; hard worker)
Bonner (hard worker; fan favorite; can shoot)
EWIll (professiona?; apparently couldn't beat out Bonner)
2009 2nd Rounder (I don't know what I am going to do tomorrow, let alone in 2009, so who cares)
For
Rasho (upgrades Arraujo)
Humphries (replaces Bonner; plus with more potenial)
Without giving up cap space or significant picks.
Overall a slight gain without losing anything. And still with the chance to upgrade further through the draft, free agents and trades. Nice.

Re: Blind love for BC
Sign Prz, and you have the same contract as Rasho and 6 mill in caproom left because we still have Matt and Eric.
Make this deal and you sub 2 under-used, under-talented players for essentially the same player as Prz and you MAINTAIN YOUR CAPROOM of roughly 14 million.
See the difference?
Now, BC has the ability to bring an allstar caliber player back in another trade. I don't know who that is. But I would Rather have say Rasho and Ray Allen over Prz and Speedy claxton.
Rasho already has his deal. Watch what guys like Prz, Lorenzen Wright and Nazr get. They will get big numbers because there is a lack of quality out there at the 5.
Getting the defensive 5 that won't command the ball, AND maintining that caproom is something many of you are overlooking. Wait 3 weeks, you'll see what this leaves room for.

Exactly ! It's a great move for the Raps ... no doubt.
Even if Rasho won't put 10/10 every night ... he plugs the middle so Bosh and Charlie can do their thing.

I'm not overlooking it. I mentioned the positives of the trade in my post. Like I said, if this leads to us acquire a max-contract player or superstar or whatever, I'll hold my judgment until then. Obviously this was just a small trade, but like speedy said; BC could get away with murder.

Re: Blind love for BC
First of all from a player perspective this makes are team better. We needed a big defensive C to play when time calls for it and we didn't really have one.
As far as the contract goes if were to sign a C it would be a 5 year deal most likely, which is longer than what Rasho has left. I have no faith any of those the C's available to be any good in that time, or atleast being worth the monies.
The best part of the deal is it allows us to use our cap space for this year on our other needs. Before this trade we had 2 glaring needs and XX capsace, now we have 1 with the relative same capspace.
I also think this is paving the way for either drafting AB or LA. We now have a big man to play against the real centers in the league and if we draft one of those 2 exploit our versatility against teams without it. Gives us a much better rounded team with alot more different on floor combos.
What does BC being able to get with murder have to do with anything? Are you saying this move or others are bad, cause otherwise how do you know that?

its not like we gave up very much.
Bonner is a 7th or 8th man on any team.
Williams is about the same, his only value is his expiring contract.

c'mon, you've got to understand the difference between a stat-padding shoot first pg guard on a lotto team and a defensive orientated Center on a championship team, the productivity levels will obviously be different......that shouldn't be grounds for evaluating the two.
at the very least I am thrilled to have someone take a little pressure off Chris down low, Mike James wasn't doing anything in this regard!

BC knows something we don't. Just be patient & watch everything unfold.

He can, but purely on the merits of this deal, I like it a lot.
