Blind love for BC
What's really bothering me is that everyone here thinks this is such an amazing trade despite the fact that Rasho is making about 8 million a year for the next three years.
These are the same people who said they wouldn't pay up any more than 6 million for Mike James...
I know there's a premium on centers in the league, but this is ridiculous: a 4/4 center over a 20/6 point guard? Mind you, if we signed James it would be just awful while acquiring Rasho was a great trade.
And it's not like this year's free agent crop didn't feature many similiar-in-value centers who's skill-set might better suit our needs.
Like someone mentioned in the main trade thread, if Babcock made this move we'd be complaining. However, BC made it so we love him for it.
I'm not dissing the man but there's a lot of you out there with a lot blind love for BC.
Is it just me or does anyone else see this?
Side Note: A positive to this trade is that we did acquire a center without using any of our cap space. EWill and Bon are expiring next year so it'll only hurt us then. Is BC planning on acquiring a superstar max-contract PG with the 1st since we filled our center void? Maybe throw some money at J.Terry and hope for the best?

Re: Blind love for BC
JuniorNoboa made a good point earlier this evening that is relevant to this thread.
Toronto's window to sign free agents is small. Likely limited to this summer only. From then on we will be spending our money to re-sign our restricted free agents.
Since it doesn't really affect our ability to sign free agents this summer, and won't affect our ability to re-sign our restricted free agents later (so long as MLSE is convinced we are moving forward and is willing to cash cheques to prove it), it's not so hard for us to take on his contract.
It also opens up our options this summer big-time. We can pick whoever we want rather than having to focus on one position (in free agency and the draft).
I dare say it makes re-signing James more likely, too. Won't complain about that!

But I do agree that Colangelo can get away with murder, and the honeymoon could last far longer than it did with Thomas.

Re: Blind love for BC
im not a babcock fan in the least but if he made this trade i would be all aboard on it for sure...like i said in the other thread, what did we give up that we already didnt have?? the only negative is his contract, but like you said, thats what you have to pay to get a decent 5...to me its worth it, simply to get bosh playing more at 4 then 5...
i wonder how many of these moves get done if babcock was still here thou...from all accounts, he was holding on to dear life with that 2nd 1st round pick this yr...aruajo was obviously his guy...dont know how willing he would have been to trade the guy...similarly, you could say the same thing about e. williams since he was suppose to be one of the key guys coming in the carter trade...trading aruajo or e.williams definetely would have made him look bad....
anyone else notice that bc is getting rid of all of babcock's garbage/mistakes??

BC is makin his team... haha.. gettin what he can.. with what he has.. its exactly what i would do if i were him...
as for blind love... its not blind love.. its being excited with his activity as a gm... hes made two trades in two weeks... he has his draft next week... and he's listening to everyones offers...
if it were babcock.. we would be stuck takin aldridge first or whoever with no real great trade offers.. if i were an opposing gm.. i am more willin to give BC a lil bit more value than babcock

Not sure about that. He may command more, and it would be a 5 year deal.
As for the Colangelo thing, I objectively think this is a decent (not great) move, and would have said the same if Babcock had done the same move. As much as I like Bonner, losing him gives us room to develop Humphries and Graham (both of whom are better players than Bonner). And our team is simply not going to move forward or make long term strides with Mike James controling the point.
There have only been small moves so far, but the team we have today would win more games and is more talented than the team we finished the season with.

Re: Blind love for BC
If rasho doesnt produe better #'s then he did with SA, this trade will just go on top of all the bust trades we have made.

If Rasho doesn't do better than he has recently in SA while getting 30-35 mpg on a 27-win team, his career is effectively over.

I like Terry, but if Colangelo doesn't want James back I don't think he'll look very hard at Jet.

I'm sorry if I confused you. I'm disappointed with Rasho's contract, but I can recognize that there's some good which came out of this trade.
The cons outweigh the pros IMO, though this statement is if you look at the trade as stand-alone. If this is just a small piece of what's to come (like I suggested, maybe a max-contract player), then my opinion may change.
The fact of the matter is that almost 3/4s of this board were complaining about paying Mike James 6 mil a year, yet they have no problem paying Rasho 2 million more than that despite his productivity being less than a third.

Bonner only makes 2 million. Rasho makes over 7.
