Sportsline: Raptors to draft Morrison and then trade for...
Quote:
Adam Morrison, F, Gonzaga: Bryan Colangelo has already started tweaking, but this is his first critical personnel decision as the architect of Toronto's rebuilding process. The call here is that he parlays this top selection into a point guard, Brevin Knight, and the guy he really wants, Italian forward Andrea Bargnani. Morrison to Charlotte in the trade.

This is done to aquire knight and save a few 100k in cap space.
Even though there are no leaks out of Raptor land you can bet that Tony Mejia has connections in CHA.
Million dollar question is: now that MJ is in the Mix as part owner in CHA does he leak this story/endorse it or try to change and go for someone like GAY who is athletic??

If BC is 100 percent sure we can get Andrea Bargnani then I see no problem with this, but if we don't get AB, then Brevin Knight is a pretty bad consolation prize. The risk is high and the reward is average...but I guess if you're 100 percent confident then everything works out. BC better be.
Of course I wouldn't get so focused on this deal that I would pass up other deals, like Miami and Cleveland giving us Wade and LeBron so that they can share our first overall.

Well if they do not get Bargs then you can bet they will get Alderidge... an acceptable risk - but all indications are that CHI is not interested in bargs but are in love with Alderidge and Tyus

Re: Sportsline: Raptors to draft Morrison and then trade for...
what if this is a smokescreen? we draft adam expecting to get something from cha . but instead they just go and draft gay or one of aldrige/thomas. of course a deal would have to be in place then, but why would cha give up an asset when they know toronto wants andrea , and that they could easily get adam by just sitting put. unless we draft adam and threaten cha that we will trade the pick to portland. portland seems to be the key here. if portland is serious about adam then cha will have to make a good offer, if not then theres no reason either teams wouldnt just sit back and see who drops to them without giving up any significant pieces to move up . but if they are afraid of each other moving up to get adam then yeah we have a healthy rivalry... but the other gms arent stupid. they know bc wants andrea, they know bcs trying to move down to get some extra pieces, and they know if they dont do anything bc might just be forced into taking andrea first , while letting adam drop to them . since chicago seems like they are taking aldridge. then portland/cha get their picks between rudy or adam .

This trade thing seems a bit too risky to me. l2owen made a good point; why would Charlotte make this deal if they know that Morrison will probably drop to them anyway? Sure they may be afraid of Portland getting the pick but I still don't think that's enough to risk taking AMMO with the first pick and then maybe having to keep him.

wat's wrong with being afraid of trading up? it's not like they're losing much anyways, since felton is taking over at the PG spot. they might as well secure morrison so that portland CAN'T make a deal.

I'm not sure about this specific trade, however I do believe that Morrison will go 1st and then traded.

looking at the two guys in your avatar, I can't possibly imagine why you'd be enamoured with a player like Rudy Gay.

From an outside fan. Couldnt Chicago take Bargs and try to shaft Collangelo intentionally? They got nothing to lose at this pick anyway because they got it from the Knicks.

Re: Sportsline: Raptors to draft Morrison and then trade for...
^ Chicago could, but why pick a player just to "shaft" another GM. That pick is part of the compensation for Eddy Curry, so I wouldn't call it "nothing to lose"

If theres a deal in place, it will be consumated well before David Stern steps to the podium to announce the first pick, and not to worry, because the deal will be legal and binding, not a loose verbal agreement.
