We don't have to make a SNT, just to get assets back. I would rather hedge my bets in the FA game then with say Corliss and Monya.. a team over the cap might go for that.

Mike James loses a lot of leverage because we are under the cap - unless a team offers us a package better then what we can do with our cap space, we are not going to help Mike out. This would be totally different if we were over the cap.

I like Mike James.. and it's tough situation for him..

I don't think we can command alot for MJ. Yeah, he's had a 20/5 year, and he'd be a great fit for some teams out there, but honestly, I can't see anyone paying overboard to get his services.

The rumoured Marquis deal is hardly something to laugh at; BC should just take it and run.

jared jefferies. he's really long. not a stat stuffer type but a solid, versitile glue guy that can man multiple positions. he'd also reinstate our ability to put a very tall frontline on the floor. if we can't work a sign/trade for him, he's a good free agent target. (hoopshype said philly was inquiring about him)

to houston for their $4MM+ exception (letting them give a longer deal and more importantly 12% raises) and a pick. i think they got the exception in their trade to NO for lampe meaning lampe can be packaged with the exception.

you can only package a trade exception with what was aquired when aquiring the trade exception (i'm pretty sure about that one but not 100%. for example, i think they got the tpe when they got lampe so lampe could be packed)

another taget idea:
mike and filler (alvin's off-the-cap-contract and maybe humphries, or whatever) for odom

LA had their big plan for next summer but taking the team option for kwame messed it up, at the right price, a deal for mike wouldgive them a guy they've been mentioned to be interested in, open up a cap window for next summer, and move a guy that lots of folks seem to think doesn't fit in with kobe.

There was the Mike James to Dallas rumour for Marquis Daniels, but Dallas just signed Jason Terry and have a quality young point guard on the come up, so that is pretty much squashed.

I'd say Luther Head. Fits the combo guard need, and gives us another perimeter defender with great all around skills.

Okay, so perusing the web the past few days, I've learned the following:

-Houston wants Mike James back
-Bill Duffy says many teams want Mike James
-Mike James likes Houston (wife's hometown)
-Stromile Swift will refuse to go to Memphis, causing difficulties for the draft day deal.
-Swift has two years plus a player option left (all sub 6 mil, player option for 6.2)
-We have cap space (actually I knew this one for a while)
-Mike James likes money (knew this one for a while too)
-We can offer James higher salary and per year raises than if he signs outright with Houston

So, putting all of this information together, I've come up with these two deals (broken up for salary purposes:

1)Mike James S&T (can start anywhere up to 6.75 mil) to Houston for Stromile Swift and Draft rights to Rudy Gay.
2)Joey Graham and Pape Sow to Houston for part of the TE.

Why? Houston gets their guy, Mike gets his money. Houston still can use their MLE to sign another free agent. Houston gets a cheaper version of Swift in Pape Sow and a cheaper version of Battier in Joey Graham.
Toronto gets a great young prospect in Rudy Gay. With Villanueva still here it made no sense, but now I think he could be a great addition to the team. Toronto takes on Swift but his contract falls within Colangelo's 3 season limit and I think his athleticism would be a nice complement to our post rotation.


Possible follow up deal (I'm dreaming here, go easy on me):
MoPete and Swift to Seattle for Ray Allen.
Why for Toronto? Obvious.
Why for Seattle? Financial reasons (about 5 mil now, 10 mil next season) stated before in other posts. Plus depth at the 4, which they don't really have now. People say Ray is the face of the franchise, but my feeling is that Rashard and Luke (especially with Team USA) are the new faces.
