TORONTO (AP) - Point guard T.J. Ford said he's completely healthy and excited to play with All-Star forward Chris Bosh, a day after he was traded to the Toronto Raptors.
The Milwaukee Bucks sent Ford to the Raptors late Friday night for forward Charlie Villanueva and cash.
Ford averaged 12.2 points and a team-high 6.6 assists in 72 games last season following a spinal-cord injury that sidelined him for a season and a half.
"I saw my doctor. I got clearance where I don't ever have to see him again," Ford said Saturday. "I'm confident."
The once-career threatening injury made him appreciate what's important.
"I definitely appreciate life a lot better. Things that are important to you, you don't take for granted. Basketball means a lot to me," Ford said. "I try to play every game like it's my last."
The 6-foot Ford was the No. 8 pick in the 2003 draft.
With the addition of the former Texas player, the Raptors have the up-tempo point guard general manager Bryan Colangelo wanted. Colangelo had Steve Nash when he was GM of the Phoenix Suns...

Thats not such a bad comparison at all (Steve Nash)
If you look at it statwise, nash posted worse as a rookie, and sophmore. TJ Ford, with Mo Pete, Joey Graham, Chris Bosh n Bargnani running the floor is gonna rack him up a lot of assists. I think all these players have the potential to be good defensively too.

That was a great article to read... certainly inspires a little bit more confidence in the move (Ford wanting to play in the T-Dot and Bosh excited about pairing with him).
This could be an exciting year.

I was not sure where to post this....so this thread is as good as any.
I think that we as Toronto fans are making to much out of Ford's "bad shooting".
After looking at his stats from his two seasons of play you can see a solid increase in both fg% and three point% .416 and .337 are not that poor! How many players in the league avrage 50% not many...so if TJ has a small increase again for this season and moves up to say .435 and .360 is he any worse than 95% of the other starting points in the league?
On a side notehis 4.3 boards per game are great for a guard and even better for a guard his size!
Just to throw this out there....
Billups career % .410fg .388 three point%
Sam Cassell .456fg .355
Jay Kidd .402 .332

Nash was playing behind Kidd in Pheonix so he didnt really get much PT

^^ hell yeah . we havent had a pointguard with that kind of ability since damon stoudamire in his rookie year. tj ford is the exact kind of leadership persona we need to grab this team by the horns and pull in a certain direction. tj brings court leadership, a guy who knows wtf is going on and is going to set people and bring new life into our offense. a pass first floor general with all-star potential. thats exactly what we've been needing all along. i have a feeling we will appreciate tj for a lot more once the season starts and we see how his leadership , and things stats dont show, changes the face of this franchise. tj and bosh are gonna be an awesome combo to watch for years to come. wow i thought id be excited about charlie and bosh. no one can stay in front of tj. no one can stay in front of bosh . no one will be able to stop our offense once those guys learn to play in a rhythm.

most of us are actually excited hes coming, and we know that his shooting will get better...plus he s got many good shooters around him, so he wont be the first shot option like mike james was or thought he was...this years gonna be exciting, even tho i wish charliev was still around... could ve been alot of alley oops thrown to him this year..
