Re: PJ >>>> Joey

Unlike almost everyone else out there I though Joey had a solid if not spectacular rookie campaign. He had spuratic rotations but did well for a rookie.

The best desciption of tucker is that he is the biggest "over-achiever" in the draft. He really is. His shot will come and he may actually be one of those Alvin Williams types to make it happen despite being passed on by so many teams.

Re: PJ >>>> Joey

Joey's shooting mechanics are rock solid. I was actually very impressed by his outside shot for a rookie not known to be a shooter at all. His FG% was almost 48%, his FT% over 80 which is always the sign of a good consistent stroke, and even his 3pt shooting was pretty decent at 33% considering he only took about 1 3pt shot per game and had never shot from that range in his life before.

His defensive mechanics were amazingly bad based on his college rep. He wasn't bending his knees and was bent over at the waist all the time. Had no balance or quickness to make lateral slides. I was expecting these fundamentals to be rock solid for him.

Joey also lacks a bit of intensity. He's too nice a guy. Not a killer on the floor. Has to develop a meanness to his game, like a Corliss Williamson had.

Joey looked to have a great low post game which Sam would only occasionally use. Drove me nuts because he was probably our best low post scorer.

PJ is a mystery to me. He looks a little bulky in the shots I have seen. I am hoping he has the lateral quicks and fundamentals to guard 2's and 3's. Be nice to have a guy with solid defensive instincts for a change.

If he can become better than Graham then that is a very good player for us. No reason they can't play together. We lack a little length on the wings with Mo, Joey, and PJ. Be nice to have that longer Rudy Gay/Rashard Lewis body at SF.

Very poor ball control. Neither are known to be very good passers or ball handlers. It could work but they would need to be cautious.

Re: PJ >>>> Joey

I guess I don't see them being asked to create much on their own. If they work well together defensively that will create fastbreak chances with the ball in TJ's hands. Up to him to set up Joey and PJ with easy finishing opportunities.

In the halfcourt it's all about Bosh and Bargs with TJ doing some driving and dishing. Other guys are just slashing through the lane or spotting up. But the ball will be in the hands of TJ, Jose, Bosh, Bargs most of the time I would think.

Be curious to see if Sam sticks with the pick and roll as his primary offense with TJ. Mike was a tougher guard on that play because he could step behind the screen and shoot.
