Colangelo's Plan - A BLOCKBUSTER trade!

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am.

It seems apparent BC is not in the market for this years crop of FA's.

When he signs Bosh's extension, we won't have cap space to add a max contract next year. Plus, I believe TJ Ford is a FA next year as well.

BC has got to be planning to use the cap space to make an unbalanced trade, where we take on a lot more salary than we give up.

But who?

Re: Colangelo's Plan - A BLOCKBUSTER trade!

He needs some kind of swingman - but thing is, do the Raptors really have any pieces (that aren't NEEDED for their success) that other teams would want?

I can see Graham being available. I can imagine maybe Calderon, and obviously Alvin Williams' expiring contract.

But beyond that, i'd say the Raptors are needing to keep Bosh, Nesterovic, Bargnani, MoPete and Ford. (unless Nesterovic goes and brings in another big body, multi-player trade)

And think about it - who's actually available around the league that fits?

Would need to preferably be a 3 point shooter, and quite athletic (to be able to run properly)

The only plausible possibility might be Ray Allen ... The Sonics want to shred salaries.

I don't know if it would be a "blockbuster" but I would see MoPete + cap space being traded away for a solid (but overpaid) swingman.

I think Colangelo wants a top-5, and then give them max minutes. They should be a young group - Bosh, Ford, that will get lots of playing time. And then have a bench full of rookies (Bargs, PJ, Calderon, Graham, etc) that will get time when they play well, or one of the starters has an off-day.

Re: Colangelo's Plan - A BLOCKBUSTER trade!

There's no way we are getting either Ray Allen or Paul Pierce without giving up Bosh, Bargnani, or Ford.

We can't even trade a first right now (I think).

I used to think he was planning a blockbuster trade, but our two biggest trade assets, Villanueva and the #1 pick, are now gone.

Re: Colangelo's Plan - A BLOCKBUSTER trade!

Think about this:

BC talked a lot about how he wanted to get a 5 to 10 pick in the draft (probably use on Foye but who knows) and the price deemed too high was Charlie Villanueva.

Charlie was obviously in play, but for our new starting PG.

Therefore, BC had other assets in mind to move for that extra 1st rounder. This tells me that Mo, Joey, Jose and if AW's contract is essentially expiring, he can be included in a list of guys on the block.

It might not be in the off season, but come the trade deadline. He may be able to take back a big salary for Mo if another team just wants to do a rebuild.

Clearly, some of the above group are still out there for trade.

Re: Colangelo's Plan - A BLOCKBUSTER trade!

Mike James and Joey Graham are Toronto's biggest assets atm, followed by Alvin's contract (if he has that clause)

James cos he's good, and Graham cos he's young and has potential.

A combination of the two should be able to get Toronto some useful pieces, possibly a good starter.
Worth checking out Marquis Daniels again maybe?
Or a better shooter..

Or maybe that Orlando rumour goes through, which would still leave Mike James as a piece.

Do you think that Colangelo is planning to tank this season to get the #1 draft pick next year -- Greg Oden? I would !

Also do you have a list of next seasons FAs? Colangelo's rebuild of the Raptors is just starting now.

Re: Colangelo's Plan - A BLOCKBUSTER trade!

well we currently have 13 mil in cap space, and ford/bosh need to be signed ( for the future)... a trade for allen is possible since mo pete is also a free agent next year also (im pretty sure)
