That said ...
Bargnani was pretty impressive Thursday night.
The top pick in last week's NBA draft was confident, aggressive and ready to hoist from the minute he lined up for his first Canadian national anthem. The first time he touched the ball for the Toronto Raptors, set up by a high pick-and-roll, Bargnani put the ball on the deck and went right to the rim, earning a quick trip to the foul line.
He also drained his first triple from NBA distance soon after and wound up totaling a solid 20 points for the Raptors, helping to secure a 93-85 victory over the Washington Wizards and looking quite loose.
"He's not shy," Raptors president Bryan Colangelo said proudly, clearly pleased that the 20-year-old was so attack-minded, good for 16 points by halftime alone.
It's obviously silly to get too excited or discouraged by anything that happens in the modern summer-league environment, with so much inexperience coming out of the draft. The patient approach is especially true on Day 1...

It's good that he's not feeling the pressure, but why would he? Like the writer said, Andrea has played in far bigger games than this.

Andrea Bargnani has drawn comparisons to Dirk Nowitzki.
That said ...

i dont put too much stock in summer league games unless you're someone fighting to make a roster. one note to those people, get the ball to the stars on the team that's the best way to make an impression.

A good article on Bargnani by Hoopsworld. The article talks about Bargnani's game against the Wizards, how to pronounce his name right and the move that wowed the crowd.

Shock doesn't quite describe the reaction from the crowd...perhaps full-fledged disbelief? Big men don't make moves like that, not even Nowitzki. His moves are so smooth he can't be compared to Nowitzki. He could become just as effective some day, but he will be different. He can play the three, four, and five and even though his best position may be the four (not with Chris Bosh around) his abilities dictate he will see time at all three positions. Imagine a starting lineup with the front line all 6-10 or greater. Think that doesn't have Sam Mitchell salivating, with Morris Peterson ready to nail outside jumpers off of passes?

Second impression: not so good.
I wonder how long it takes some people to go into Hoffa-style panic mode over Andrea's summer league foul troubles.
I'm guessing it's already begun (with the usual suspects).
