Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
-- Samaki Walker was a late addition to our LVSL team. He is trying to get on with the Raps.
-- Trenton Hassell is supposedly being offered by Minnesota for a signed-and-traded Mike James.

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
Y'Know, Hassell wouldn't be that bad..
Obviously nowhere near full value, but it beats letting him walk for free.
Though James is supposedly close to a deal with Houston, so not sure if there's time to get a deal done.

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
wasn't hassell starting for the timberwolves for his defensive abilities? but then got benched cause he was too much of a liability on offense? i wonder how much he makes to see if this trade will actually work.

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
Well we all know he's an excellen defender, and could then either start at the 2/3, or simply be on the bench behind Joey (or whomever the Raptors sign).
On the Raptors, I doubt he'd be playing for his offense..

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
I think every team could use a Hassell in their 12 (or 15, pending on depth).
Wouldn't dismiss it, but I'd still shop around for better value.

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
I don't want to pay Hassell $5M per year!
Samaki Walker is done. He may only be 30, but he is an OLD 30. Not a bad bench player when he was with the Clippers.

4 years at 4.35 per.
I don't know about that. It would be good to hit a shot for that price.

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
I like Hassell. But I don't want him on this team.
I would really like to see us grab a big, big man like Lavrinovic or Vujcic (just to battle guys like Big Z for a few minutes), Parker (because when AB is ready, Parker slides seemlessly into the bench role), and a cheap combo like House or Banks. We do that and we are set.
No need signing the "big" name free agents just to make a splash when they all suck and are overpaid (except maybe Pryz). And no need to sign and trade for a player just to get something back for MJ. We are under the cap so just take the space.

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
We need a starting-calibre SG/SF. Hassell provides toughness and defense, but would be a poor fit due to his mediocre scoring abilities. We need to put a swingman on the floor who can either hit the three or slash.
Once we obtain that swingman, our 2/3 rotation will mainly consist of Peterson, Graham, and that player. Garbajosa, Humphries, and Bargnani may log additional minutes at the 3. I see no point in adding Hassell.
Honestly, we need a big-time player if we're planning to do significantly better than last year. Despite adding Nesterovic, Ford, and Bargnani, we are still losing Mike James and Charlie Villanueva. I *really* hope Bryan is going to add an impact player instead of a MLE player like Jones, Stevenson, etc. Please use that capspace for something!

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
I doubt that BC has any interest in Hassell
my guess is he's asking for Marcus Banks, possibly Ricky Davis?
I only mention Davis because I thought of Minnesota with both Mike James and Ricky Davis on the same team, seems kinda redundant.

Re: Samaki Walker & Trenton Hassell
Well, you can't really have 5 guys who want the ball in their hands.
Bargnani and Bosh are scorers, Mo is a shooter and TJ is a ball handler. So a player like Hassell isn't a bad fit.
But I'm not convinced you need to fill another roster spot and pay him $4.5 M. How much better than Graham / Tucker will he be in 2007-08? Maybe not as good.
