Bonzi Wells' agent spotted sitting near/with Raptors execs
Quote:
Waiting Wells -- All indications are that free-agent shooting guard Bonzi Wells is waiting for his price tag to increase.
His offer from the Kings, reportedly, is for $36 million over five years, and his agent, William Phillips, has said more than six teams put offers on the table. According to reports, Denver, Detroit and Indiana have interest. The question is if any team beside the Kings has offered more than the midlevel exception (approximately $5 million).
Phillips was on hand at summer league but declined comment. He spent much of his evening sitting in the vicinity of executives from Toronto -- one of the few teams with salary cap room to spare -- and spoke briefly with Miami Heat vice president of player personnel Chet Kammerer.

Re: Bonzi Wells' agent spotted sitting near/with Raptors execs
the thought of adding bonzi is a tricky one.
can he be a good locker room guy? we really need to maintain team chemistry.
and we also need to be concerned about contract year performers.
that being said, adding bonzi and anthony parker would seemingly round out the roster perfectly.

Re: Bonzi Wells' agent spotted sitting near/with Raptors execs
These conversations must have been initiated by Bonzi's people, not the raptors. They know that Toronto is one of a handful of teams with cap space.
He seems redundant here with joey, Pj etc.
Not to mention the attitude questions. I wouldn't want to pay him more that the MLE.

And he turn down 5 or 6 years at 36 millions ... so forget about the MLE.

Re: Bonzi Wells' agent spotted sitting near/with Raptors execs
I don't know how I feel about this.
First I just want to say that I don't think Bonzi Wells is asking for too much money. Did anybody see the playoffs last year? In all due respect the Kings had no chance of winning more than five games against the Spurs, but they gave them a scare. Bonzi averaged 24 and 12 in that series, and if I recall correctly had some BIG games.
I don't think getting Bonzi would be redundant just because we have Joey Graham and PJ Tucker, because in all do respect, I can't even imagine JG having an impact even close to that, and Tucker is a second round rookie.
Bonzi Wells is a player, and with him we would win more games, he could never be our best player or even one of our best players, bu Bonzi Wells is an X-Factor, and I'd rather over pay to have him then get lit up by him.
THAT BEING SAID.
Is this how we want to spend our salary cap? It seems that the money we have saved up now would be wasted if we don't nab an all-star. I guess it just depends on how long we want to hold out. Next year will obviously be better than last as far as free agents go.
Would anybody be opposed to signing Wells for a two year deal? Wells would probably turn it down, but it's a nice thought.

you'd have to pay more than kings offer ( 5 years/ 36 million). Ummm......ummm....NO!
He's a malcontent, more than any Raptor in their brief history. Overrated, getting old....we don't need that crap.

Re: Bonzi Wells' agent spotted sitting near/with Raptors execs
I'd love to see Bonzi in Toronto but I don't expect for BC to make any significant FA signings this summer.
After re-signing Bosh and Ford, the cap situation won't be quite as nice, and I don't see BC being the type to go over the Cap in order to secure a team that may not even be a playoff team next year. I'd imagine he keeps his cap room, so that if a midseason trade comes along, he can absorb larger salaries via trade.
If we sign Bonzi, and then go over the cap to sign Bosh, we won't be in a very good condition during the season. I also recall hearing that BC has no interest in taking on Wells because of his reputation for being a headcase, and I don't imagine he's interested in signing up with the Raptors for cheap either.

During his tenure with the Blazers, Bonzi was suspended for two games for publicly cursing at his coach after being taken out of a game. Bonzi was also fined in a separate incident for making an obscene gesture to a fan in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. When asked by a media reporter about the incident, he said, "I black out sometimes," [3] and then winked and smiled at the camera[citation needed]. Wells was suspended one game without pay and fined $10,000 for intentionally striking and verbally abusing an official in 2000. Bonzi and teammate Erick Barkley in 2001 were cited for criminal trespass after they refused to leave the scene by order of an officer of a fight near a downtown nightclub. [4] Bonzi was also suspended for a undisclosed reason during the 2005 NBA Playoffs.

Re: Bonzi Wells' agent spotted sitting near/with Raptors execs
I'm one of the guys who's really for adding Bonzi to our team. Maybe even the only guy. But he's a great rebounder, a solid slasher and a swingman which is just what we need on our team right now. He'd be a great fit on our team especially.

Re: Bonzi Wells' agent spotted sitting near/with Raptors execs
that would make us have 3 very similar swingmen in Graham, PJ, and Wells.
not happening
