james to miami?
Quote:
don't forget one other team: Miami, which is making an effort to repatriate James to South Florida, where he broke into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2001.
The Heat have at least a puncher's chance for four reasons:
1. Miami's now the defending champion, and never discount that as a factor for a player.
2. James immensely enjoyed playing for Pat Riley when he was with the Heat and often has said that Riley helped him believe he could play in the league.
3. With Gary Payton on his last legs, Miami needs a third guard to rotate with Wade and Jason Williams.
4. The Heat owe James' agent, Bill Duffy, a monster favor.
Three years ago, Duffy's office failed to inform the Heat that his client, then-Heat guard Anthony Carter, wanted to exercise a player option in his contract. That mistake cleared more than $4 million in unexpected cap room for the Heat that summer, which allowed Miami to make a play for Clippers free-agent forward Lamar Odom.
Odom signed with Miami. And without Odom, there's no way the Heat could have put together a package attractive enough to the Lakers to acquire Shaquille O'Neal in the summer of 2004.
General managers rarely forget when player agents help them out, willingly or unwillingly. Lord knows Duffy probably hasn't.

how about a sign and trade of MJ to miami, and Jason Willaims and Dorell Wright to toronto?
it'd give james a big payday, we'd have the best PG rotation i can think of in the history of the team, add a young promising talent in Wright and stay within the 3-year contract window the teams looks to be focusing upon.

Re: james to miami?
very hard to work a deal with miami...
i guess the only other option would be a james sign and trade doleac and wright + 25% and maximimum available raises. doleac and wright and the 25% are still under the MLE, approx. $4,980,000 -- much better deal for miami in as far as holding their key assets, less good a of a deal for MJ, obviously.

I'd be down for that deal. The 2 games that Wright was given minutes this year, he put up 20 and 19 (against atlanta and Boston), so the kid can score. With Sow going down possibly for the season, we're giving up some depth at centre which Doleac gives us for cheap.
And both contracts fit within Colangelo's mysterious 3 year maximum length criteria. Who is he coveting that will be available in 3 years? Let the speculation run rampid.

Re: james to miami?
Ya exactly... nice deal for the raptors, but miami look like idiots. I don't see them giving up on Dorell Wright any time soon. Maybe we could get Doleac and Simien in return. A S&T looks really tricky to work with Miami for sure.

Re: james to miami?
I don't know that they need another tweener guard on that squad. Wade pretty much has that void filled for forty minutes a night.
I don't think James will go to Miami.
I wonder if they spend their money to keep that asshat Alonzo Mourning. God knows he isn't going to take the minimum.

Re: james to miami?
I don't even want Jason Williams.. but give me Dorell Wright and I'm happy... EXTREMELY happy.

Re: james to miami?
of all the teams miami faced in the playoffs, it was chicago, specifically chicago's guards, that gave them the most trouble. imo, james is perfect for them. he'd be their second best smallman and should not have any problem playing a lesser role than wade. they nead exactly what james brings them.
if james would accept the starting $4.9MM with 12% raises (it would be relaint upon a sign and trade having the 25% flexibility) james for doleac and wright (the 2nd deal above) is a solid deal for both parties.
wade, james, williams, payton vs hinrich, gordon, duhon looks a lot better for the heat

Re: james to miami?
I agree that their is no way we would get Williams for James, let along Williams AND Wright...but I would take Wright in a heart beat. I don't even know anything about the guy, all I've heard is that he's got potential, combine that with the fact that we'll be a better team without Mike James than with Mike James, and you've got my approval.
