Ouch.

Nobody on this board would give that to James to stay with us? Let's hear why not.

yap yap yap! jack jack jack!

not that i would have been opposed to giving him that kind of deal...putting him at the two would have been a pretty exciting experiment.

that said...i think he established himself as the go to guy on the raptors at the end of games and it would be tough to change that.

when it comes down to it, he talked himself out of town and from the looks of it...a bigger contract.

Well, the board doesn't make important decisions, Colangelo does. There was obviously something that Colangelo didn't like in James (maybe the selfishness, maybe the jabber) enough to not want to re-sign him. It was clear from the day the offseason began that James was not part of BC's plan. I wrote too many things about James all season while everyone was jock-riding, I don't want to be bothered now. I wish him the best of luck in Minnesota, perhaps he'll be more willing to defer to his teammates there, but I know that he simply refused to defer to anyone in Toronto. Seeing as this is Bosh's team, perhaps that's the reason he wasn't asked back.

Love it when people in the know such as yourself, make a creative nickname such as a certain GM sucks, and then show us your knowledge which makes you so worthy of being a worthy critic of a GM. Of course a team that has signed a player to a MLE should trade us a player as well. You sir are brilliant and I applaud you.

Sameold. Me first who does not share and forgets about someguy named bosh come the crunch because he thinks he is best to take those shots.

I don't care if it was 3 or 5 years. Mike is not a player I want, PERIOD.

How many teams wanted a 20ppg player? 3?

That should tell you a lot.

i mentioned it elsewhere, i would want to know what it is. i mean, i'm sure there's something- it could be any combination of a number of things- and i would love to know what it is. i don't expect anyone to disclose that info, no, but the reasons we've been given to date have not been enough imo.

but i'll say one thing: if we didn't express interest in re-signing him for the things he was doing on the court, i'm not in agreement. simple as that. some of us can talk about his ball-hog tendencies and all that jazz, but to me those rumours are now bordering on utter fiction. just rumours that have gained way too much momentum and are now telling a different story than the one i was told during the season.

i suspect sam chipped in with something that led to bryan's final decision. after all, i don't think it's a coincidence that we've acquired rasho and tj, both players with strong professional ties to sam himself. i think sam has been heavily involved in our moves to this point in the summer. but if not, if bryan reached his final call not because he wanted to make the team better ahead of everything else, but rather because he wanted to stamp the team with his sig, i'm worried.

i'll leave it at that. i just don't know enough about this to form a strong opinion right now.

peace

This idea seems to be a common theme in your (and a lot of other posters) posts. What is it about Colangelo that makes you think that stroking his own ego is more important than building a winning franchise? Or, better yet, wouldn't building a winning team be the best way to stroke his ego?

Don't get me wrong, it's obvious that Colangelo is somewhat arrogant and perhaps even borderline narcissistic, but I have strong doubts about him making moves simply to 'put his stamp' on the franchise.

yeah, it may come off that way but i don't mean that at all. i think the obvious goal (as badly as some want to believe otherwise) of every gm in the league is to win. at the end of the day, that's what they want to do.

but that doesn't mean they don't all have a pre-existing bias to some degree, in some direction, that prevents them from pursuing that goal 'clearly'. i'm sure it's been historically proven that a large % of new gm's are relatively trigger happy over their first few months- the "make moves for the sake of moves" period. i'm not sure they always know that. "change, change, change anything." i think they often regret that approach, too- that's what i'm worried about here. i think winning is always foremost, but i think that the initial months on the job still present many an illusion for them- iow, they think they're doing it to get better when in reality they're probably/partly doing it for ulterior motives (whatever they might be).

again, i'm not saying bryan's one of them. but considering what we've heard on mike james this summer, either he knows something i don't or he's being governed by some personal illusion (rooted in pre-existing bias, of which he may not be fully aware) that's led him to turn his attention from mj and look elsewhere.

peace
