opportunity squandered
Have to admit i'm befuddled with these rumoured signings. While garbagosa, parker, and salmons are probably all great additions why in the world are we using our cap room on guys like this? Every one of these guys is an MLE (or less) type of signing.
We have the rare opportunity to sign or trade for players who are worth more than the MLE. Why not sign or trade for a premier player and get these guys (garbagosa, parker, etc) after we're over the cap???
One could even argue that we're signign these guys to acquire assets that we can trade later (why else are we signing ~30 yr old players with no nba experience), but i have a hard time believing they (BC and Maurizio) would lure europeans to toronto only to trade them later....would lose some credibility with future signings, i would think.
Reminds me a lot of winning the #1 pick.....we didn't really do anything with it other than pick a player we could have had at 4 or 5 anyway.
Seems like opportunity squandered.

We will go into the season under the cap. If someone wants to shed a near max player, we will have several expiring players to use including Mo, Kris and seemingly now Alvin. We won't have to use all of them though because we will have the room, still after adding some solid depth.

Re: opportunity squandered
i would have rather traded for a premier player.....rashard lewis or something of the like.
Or, no one. Save the space for later.
I just don't see the value in eating our precious cap space with <MLE-level euros who are at the peak/downside of their careers who at best help us become a mediocre team.

Re: opportunity squandered
I'll make this short, as I have lost power (it's China) and my posts 3 times already tonight.
We have acquried:
a legit point guard, didn't have one last year
a legit centre, didn't have one last year
2 Euro vets with championship experience and countless individual accolades
1 Euro rising star with championship experience and individual accolades
Traded Hoffa for a 21 year old 3 year vet who's been described in summer leagues as a hustle guy who's grabbing tons of boards. Rebounding is something we need, no?
Big names aren't always what makes a team a team.

Re: opportunity squandered
Adding depth isn't sexy, but our lack of depth is what killed us last year. Our starters were playing way too many minutes because the coaching staff couldn't afford to rest them. The bench was inexperienced or old and angry (see Eric Williams). Because of these extended minutes, the Raptors simply looked tired at the end of games and all too often squandered leads in the last few minutes. We won't be faced with the same problem of no depth this year and I think we'll all be surprised at the difference that some depth and giving our starters some rest will make.

Cram, do you always copy and paste your posts/threads into both RealGM and BBB.net? Can't say I like that approach much.

I've noticed that as well, often lurking over there.

Not sure i understand what's wrong with that? I surf and contribute to both boards, and quite frankly value opinions from many posters on both boards.
And, if you arent' a fan of me cruising both boards how in the world did you find my RealGM post so quickly if you weren't there yourself?
And furthermore...who cares???? Why does something this trivial really bother you?

what assets do we have to trade for a premier player like rashard lewis? cap space and salary dump isn't exactly on seattle's agenda (well not with an all-star calibre player). so i don't know how we could trade with juss cap space alone (since you are only using cap space to defend your thought that we are not using it wisely, it only makes sense to question how juss cap space alone can retrieve a premier player).
