Houston wouldnt unless it was Gay for Mo Pete and Humpries, but that probably would never happen.

actually, houston would have probably given away stromile swift for almost nothing........

I was going to say that Shane Battier is beter then mopete......But the more that I think about it....Mo is a much better offensive player and they are both realllly good at D..........Battier beats mo in the "intangibles" department....but I dont know ...its a tough one...I dont think u can say one is better then the other, They both ave there strengths and weaknesses...So my conclusion is
Mopetee is equal to Battier....

Re: Would you?

i'll answer this quickly for all toronto fans, if they disagree with me they are dumb.

Swift dunks alone > Humphries.

Gay's Potential = Mo-pete and beyond, and i love mo-pete...

so the answer is YES!

I'm on your side, but Stromile Swift is a low ball-IQ, no-substance bust. No way he's better than Humphries.

Re: Would you?

Swift is a total loser.

But to get Gay, a guy who was thought to be consensus #1 overall going into the college season, it would likely be worth taking on Swift's contract. Make no mistake, Houston was looking to DUMP Swift and his deal.

Swift still has some trade value though. We could probably move him along for a shorter contract. The guy is Keon Clark, but with only a small portion of the talent.

Gay could end up being the best player of this draft class. Or he could be a Keon Clark himself and just coast through on talent alone.

Humphries isn't likely to play much for us. Tough to lose MoP right now but you would have to pull the trigger on a trade like that. It's like getting another #1 pick.

So your the Houston GM?

Sorry but this is an example of "the voices in your head" fake trader.

Houston obviously had a hard-on for Battier. He has alot more size then Mo-Pete. I doubt that trade was available... other then the voices in people's heads.

Would I make the trade... yes.. but again, the critical point is would Houston, and I am far from sure on that.

Re: Would you?

Hard to say if HOU valued Battier that much more than MoP.

Mo is only 1 year older. Shooting percentages are quite similar. I would give the advantage to MoP defensively simply because he can guard all 3 perimeter positons and is therefore more versatile than Shane. Both solid locker room guys.

HOU may have simply locked in on Battier because they are more familiar with him from playing several times each year. IND wishes they got that kind of trade value for Artest.

Re: Would you?

i can understand why people would like this trade- gay's a promising, unproven ("he could be great!") young talent and his hype balloon is bursting with energy at the moment- but i'd definitely turn it down. just because we don't yet know how rudy willl play in this league doesn't necessarily mean that he'll be great. yes, it's interesting to think about acquiring him since he's a hot prospect, sure, but that doesn't necessarily equate to an excellent future. that's my defense against the hype.

peterson, meanwhile, is not quite as exciting in the sense that we already know what we're getting, but i'd rather keep it in toronto than take on additional risk with players of rudy's ilk and calibre. i'm not usually risk averse but our team has enough already, imo. combine that with the fact that we're already young, we're already committed to developing a list of young players (and/or veterans like parker who carry their own brand of 'rookie'), and i don't think i'd be supportive of this particular trade prospect.

not to mention morris peterson's role on this team. it's still summer and things could change by the time we assemble ourselves on the court, but as it stands, not only is mop the most experienced toronto raptor, he's relatively cheap while he also embodies all the intangibles to which we seem overtly committed. he fits very well. so it's not just like moving proven talent for another lottery pick- morris peterson brings more than just proven talent, he fits on many levels, he helps to define the raptors equation today (in my book anyway), and i'd think fifty times before moving him at this point.

i don't know if i'd say that had we gone a more conservative route this summer but i know i'm saying it now. at the moment, we have only 4 holdovers from last year's team- which wasn't a veteran outfit to begin with. so there's value in stability, while i concede that there's also value in change, but we need to be careful before we compromise the former in favour of the latter anymore.

peace

I will not argue that MoPete is as or more valuable then Battier - I think he is. But it all comes down to the Houston GM, and we can not know what he is thinking... obviously he likes Battier alot to give up Gay.
