SPORTSLINE: top 10 Free agents #6 Fred Jones #7Jorge Garbajosa
Nice article by Tony

Quote:
6. Fred Jones, Toronto: Over the past two seasons, while Indiana dealt with suspensions, injuries and internal drama, Jones played a major role in helping the team keep its head above water. Despite measuring only 6-feet-2, Jones has done whatever has been asked of him, be it using his athleticism to crash the boards and defend small forwards, getting after it on the break or knocking down shots from outside.
He figures to play a similar role in Toronto, rounding out a wing rotation that also features Morris Peterson and second-year swingman Joey Graham. With T.J. Ford running the point, expect to see a lot of Jones at times when the Raptors pressure the ball and look to run teams, literally, out of their building.
At the very least, Toronto is excited to have a former slam dunk champion back in-house. He'll be a better fit than John Salmons, who opted out of a potential deal.

Quote:
7. Jorge Garbajosa, Toronto: Don't be surprised if Garbajosa is more effective than top pick Andrea Bargnani as an NBA rookie. That might not be what the Raptors are hoping, but it's a decent possibility given their age difference. Bargnani has significant strides to make and will one day be very good, but Garbajosa is what he is -- a tough, skilled European, perhaps the Spanish version of Argentina's Andres Nocioni with a better jumper.
Garbajosa, 28, has won tons of accolades in his home country and has still been overshadowed by phenom Pau Gasol and a number of hot-shot guards who haven't particularly panned out in the States. His grit and savvy separate him. You're going to like him.

i'm stoked to see jorge. he's already quiet, he's already behind the scenes and we haven't even started the season! i've never seen him play but something tells me that it won't take him long to adjust to this league. we'll see how he responds to the modest expectations i have for him.
peace

I'm excited to read how we will run teams out of their building !
Now .... Garbajosa = Nocioni + better jumper ?
didn't Nocioni already led the league in 3pt fg%? there's no way Garbajosa shoots the lights out from the 3 point area ... I just don't see him doing that here. I'll be glad if he bangs around and gets rebounds and putbacks. If he can be a threat when open, all the better !

Porno to be our Nocioni?
Certainly a nice way to think of it.

"I really like him...to me he's already pretty special," Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki said after continually getting beat to the basket by Bosh. "He's going to be a great player in this league."
"Chris Bosh really has emerged to be a star in this league. There are more than the top three (in the 2003 draft)." - Dwyane Wade
I love everything about him, I love his game, I love his work ethic. He definitely has my approval - Kobe Bryant"

Maurico already stated that Garbajosa and Nocioni are nothing alike. Jorge is a 4/5
How can Garbajosa be in the top 10 without any mention of Parker?

Re: SPORTSLINE: top 10 Free agents #6 Fred Jones #7Jorge Garbajosa
Garbajosa is really an upgraded Matt Bonner. His outside shot even looks the same. He is sneakier, has better hands, and is a great passer.
He hustles like crazy, but will rebounding will suffer somewhat in the NBA based on lack of size and ups, just like Bonner.

Even if Jorge doubles Bonner's production, i'm still going to miss Big Red.

this just based on youtube? cause you could put together a lot great shots and moves by bonner and make him look like a player he isn't.

Re: SPORTSLINE: top 10 Free agents #6 Fred Jones #7Jorge Garbajosa
Over the last few years Raptor's TV has aired lots of international basketball games......by no means am I an expert, but I have seen more than just youtube clips. USA vs Brazil was on last night, it was a great chance to see Splitter and some other non NBA players. The same can be said of other good Euro talent in the past years.

Well Jorge has been on the international scene playing against NBA talent for some time. I think Mad Viking is on the money.
