Chris Bosh Anchors US defense
Quote:
An important subplot to the rout was the resurgence of Chris Bosh. Relegated to the bench for nearly the entire opening round, Bosh had a strong game against Senegal in the final contest that most people discounted because, hey, it was only Senegal. But in the Australia game he played just as well and served as the catalyst for the U.S. in its big second quarter run.
Bosh's final line was excellent: 12 points on 4 of 4 from the field, a gamehigh nine rebounds in 18 minutes, and no turnovers. But what really stood out was his defensive activity. Bosh was far and away the most interested and involved U.S. big man on rotations and help plays, and for his efforts it appears he's moved ahead of Antawn Jamison in the U.S. frontcourt food chain.

Re: Chris Bosh Anchors US defense
edit:
two things disheartening about that article though:
1. Praising Bosh for (finally) playing D against a mediocre offensive threat in Bogut.
2. Battling Jamison on the depth chart.

Re: Chris Bosh Anchors US defense
Moving up the depth chart is still moving up the depth chart!
Bosh played very well.....his 4 for 4 from the field included a 3 pointer and a 17 foot baseline jumper....he was the Bosh we are used to seeing during the regular season.
Bogut is more skilled than I thought....he can handle the ball very well for a 7 footer, has a post game, and can shoot the jumper....I would say he is far from mediocre....not prolific....but not mediocre!

Some more Bosh defensive praise:

Bosh is loving life right now. He got to prove himself on the international stage with a 20-point, 10-rebound outing against Senegal last Thursday -- up to that point, he'd been a victim of Coach K's numbers game and hadn't played more than spot-up minutes. Offering 12 points and nine boards against Australia on Sunday, he also took charges, disrupted shots on defense and covered large areas of paint with his impressive wingspan. Bosh could hardly be called a defensive force in his All-Star season with the Raptors last year, but his role on Team USA has been defined -- he's the player that Ben Wallace was supposed to be in the 2002 and 2004 US outfits.

WOW . . .thats a nice comparison. He does have tremendous energy up front on the press as well, he's always the big man they are trapping with at half court.

Re: Chris Bosh Anchors US defense
Bosh was very active in that game, he probably guarded Bogut better than any of the US big men, and a lot of it was on the perimeter, not a surprise, Bosh has very good lateral quickness for a big man

Yup. He also has good anticipation on shooters, seldomly blocking their shots right after the release or even denying the shot before it even leaves the shooter's hands.

Re: Chris Bosh Anchors US defense
great articles, i've been watching the US just to see bosh play, mostly the last 2 games, bogut really surprised me hitting a 3 & and pulling off a behind the back dribble, but bosh owns bogut.

Re: Chris Bosh Anchors US defense
Chris played some alright D; some nice patches here and there.
I don't think it was anything to write home about on face value, but it was nice to see him remain active and make it a top priority to focus on his game without the ball in his hands.
Generally guarded Bogut well, followed him out to the perimeter, yet drifted into the lane for help defense against the slashers along the baseline. Challenged alot of shots both out on the perimeter and in the paint (and in the process, drew some "good" fouls, if there is such a thing). Intensity was alot better than previously written.

"I don't really look at guys and memorize players, but (Bosh) is very impressive. He can shoot, he has an inside game, physical at times, he's pretty good...he's more than holding his own." - Shaq
"I really like him...to me he's already pretty special," Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki said after continually getting beat to the basket by Bosh. "He's going to be a great player in this league."
"Chris Bosh really has emerged to be a star in this league. There are more than the top three (in the 2003 draft)." - Dwyane Wade
I love everything about him, I love his game, I love his work ethic. He definitely has my approval - Kobe Bryant"
