The Buzz
If there was a theme to media day today, it seems to be that there is a buzz around Toronto about the team. The buzz is the buzz. I'm not in Toronto so I'll have to ask you if it's really the case.
Is it just curiosity, or is there a genuine sense that the Raptors franchise is on track and moving in the right direction?

Re: The Buzz
there really is a buzz...anybody who i talk to basketball head or not, is really wondering what the Raps will do this season. The Leafs buzz is year round, and to their fans they will win the cup every year, i guess there batting 0 for 62. But everybody is wondering hwo is that "tall italian guy" they drafted. ANd it seems that the media is really pushing this team hard on us, and many heads are being turned ( i mean we saw a positivee article from Dave *******)

Re: The Buzz
Let's hope this buzz surrouding the team can lead to chemistry which in turn will lead to more wins and (fingers crossed) the playoffs. I just hope BC knows what hes doing and all the pieces we picked up fall into place.

It seems to be a "let's see if they show up" kind of buzz around here.

Re: The Buzz
according to the Toronto Star, the Raptors media day coverage deserves enough buzz to get the last page on the sports page
but the "buzz" does seem to be more of anticipation and curiousity

Re: The Buzz
i'm not entirely comfortable with the way the team is being treated. i thought they'd get more attention, to be honest, but that's not what bothers me: it's that the people still appear somewhat ignorant about the system in the nba- namely, the cba. the ignorance has quieted to some extent, i think, probably due to the cba now gaining relevance in the nhl, but it's still there.
for one thing, i caught something on tsn last night that bothered me. there was a preamble by dutch leading into a story covering the raps in waterloo, and the credit being passed on to colangelo was way off-target, imo. it was something to the tune of, "colangelo came in and didn't sit on his hands- he decided to do something to change the culture of the team... etc.". i mean, all diehard raptors fans probably understand that brian didn't do something because he wanted to do something, he did something because he could do something- in other words, the flexibility was already on board when he arrived. whether it was babcock, colangelo, grunwald, embry or santa claus in that gm chair, something was going to be done regardless. colangelo deserves, imo (and probably yours), no 'credit' for making use of flexibility inherited. i think his work is still being misunderstood, and that worries me for what is bound to happen again in the future: summers over the cap, free agents signing elsewhere, and toronto fans wondering why they aren't in the running for their services. that long-standing ignorance has not been wholly addressed to this point, and it continues to leave a sour taste in my mouth.
in terms of the spotlight on the team here in the city, i don't find it to be much/any different from past years... yet. the reason might be that the team is in kitchener/waterloo and the toronto media hasn't yet had the opportunity to meet with them on the record, so it might change over the next few days, or it might have to do with the nhl preseason hurricane that has enveloped the entire country, but the season (or the buzz) hasn't quite taken off for the raptors in toronto. i think we'll be in a better position to get caught up in the raptors frenzy- and make judgments on it- come 5 to 7 days from now.
peace

Re: The Buzz
Considering that we landed one of the best execs around, lucked in the first pick in the draft, added maybe the two best players from europe, and traded for the best point guard in raptor history, I think the public and the media are still being pretty cautious and conservative. There is an optimistic buzz but I don't feel my overwhelming excitement being mirrored anywhere except by a few posters on internet discussion forums.
I think they are being cautious and with the way the team should be playing this year, full blown hysteria and overjoyment could follow suit. I do expect the ACC to be rocking from day one and that's really what matters most I guess.
I think the more important buzz lies with the players. After coming in for preseason scrimmages, they're probably as excited for the season to start as we are.

i agree with everything you said expect you also forgot about Rasho, IMO i think he is going to be the biggest X factor on this team, if he can really contribute well it will be a huge help. It will take so much pressure of Chris and put less on Andrea to be spectacular

I kinda disagree. I think it's the first year in 3 seasons that the optimism is justified.
