Big men duos: The Toronto Raptors

Big men in the NBA have traditionally had to operate alone. One of the few true exceptions was the "twin towers" in San Antonio.

The Raptors frontcourt is going to be insane. They can take their men with them so far out of the lane. Bosh and Bargs can shoot great averages from the perimeter. TJ can have his way and feed outside for such easy shots if he's blocked off.

Bosh hopes to block two shots a game. I think Andrea is just as capable.

They can slash. Our "towers". With and without the ball they can both slash to the hoop oh so quickly. And yes, the ball will be delivered.

Rebounding may be an issue for Andrea but it won't be for Andrea + Bosh et al. We're going to come out on top of most rebounding battles. Bosh and Rash followed by bosh and bargs followed by bargs and garbs followed by Rash and garbs. With TJ, AP, MP, JG, et al crashing the boards?

They can guard and they are unguardable. Both of them. They are a better combo than Sheed and Big Ben RIGHT NOW. Wait for it. You know it's coming.

Offensively, perhaps - though Bargs is still an unknown quantity. I think it's very hard to come up comparisons and the like at the moment. The key to this partnership is for the future methinks.

In any case, it'll be fun watching the Bosh/Bargnani duo work it against the Howard/Milicic and Bogut/Villanueva partnerships of the future.

"I don't really look at guys and memorize players, but (Bosh) is very impressive. He can shoot, he has an inside game, physical at times, he's pretty good...he's more than holding his own." - Shaq

"I really like him...to me he's already pretty special," Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki said after continually getting beat to the basket by Bosh. "He's going to be a great player in this league."

"Chris Bosh really has emerged to be a star in this league. There are more than the top three (in the 2003 draft)." - Dwyane Wade

I love everything about him, I love his game, I love his work ethic. He definitely has my approval - Kobe Bryant"

Bargs isn't a raw offensive player: he's an offensive powerhouse.

Re: Big men duos: The Toronto Rapors

Sky is just gushing this summer!

Bosh and Bargnani are two new era big men. You hear guys like Shaq and Duncan talking about it pretty frequently--the modern big man is mobile, he can shoot, he can defend multiple positions, and he has more refined skills. There will always be a place for the lumbering type, but it is the well-rounded bigs that will be leading the NBA into the next decade, if they aren't already.

Bosh and Bargnani make up what might be the most difficult guarding assignment for any opposing frontcourt in the NBA. They both have great shooting range, with Bosh supposedly starting to stretch out to 23'9", and Bargnani already a great three-point shooter from the international line (20.5'). They are both quick off the dribble, they can cross up their defender, they are potentially great passers, and can get to the rack quickly and smoothly with their tremendous length and agility.

But can they stop anyone?

Re: Big men duos: The Toronto Raptors

With our length and mobility, I'm really not overly worried about defending the paint and this duo is made for transition defense. I'm very confident in their defensive potential.

lol. I just realized I mispelled the thread title. Was posting under the influences last night it seems.

But seriously. The Bosh and Bargnani duo is one of a kind, it's in a league of it's own.

Did you see that off the backboard windmill that Bosh threw down with the greatest of ease? Ridiculous.

It's just so incredibly difficult to guard great big men when you absolutely should not leave the other big man open. These two can score from wherever they receive the ball or have the ability to draw the foul on most possessions.

The real question is how much time they will actually log together this season. Confidence in Bargnani's NBA readiness is on the up. I know mine is.
