Washington — The Toronto Raptors are still more than three weeks away from finding out how their off-season makeover will play when the curtain goes up on the 2006-07 season.
But they take a step closer to finding out when they meet the Washington Wizards at the MCI centre Monday night for the first of the Raptors eight pre-season games before they play for real on Nov.1.
Front and centre — literally—will be No. 1 pick Andrea Bargnani. Head coach Sam Mitchell indicated on the weekend he want to use the early part of the exhibition season to give the nine new faces on the club the chance to get some time on the floor.
In particular he wants the likes of Jorge Garbajosa, Anthony Parker and Bargnani — who are either making their NBA debuts or, in the case of Parker, returning after a long absence -- to see plenty of action, even if it means sitting Chris Bosh and Morris Peterson for extended periods.

I don't see why you guys want Mo and Bosh to log extensive minutes in the preseason? The younger dudes should get as much playing time as possible, and the preseason is the only time Sam can afford to bench his stars for extended periods of time.

It's important that they get big minutes for two or three pre-season games to get in shape for long minutes for when the games count.

PT and positions will be determined during the wee hours of preseason, just like in past preseasons for any other sport.
