Depth

We've known that we were going to be a deep team this season but to see it produce 3 victories to start the season is very gratifying.

I know our competition hasn't been stellar but our bench play has been awesome so far, right down to PJ Tucker.

Calderon, Bargnani, Jorge, Humphries, Joey, Jones. They've all been effective.

Then there's the Nets, who have perhaps the worst depth in the league.

Re: Depth

I agree. If our starting lineup fails to produce on certain nights, we can always rely on our bench to give the players some rest and to keep up the energy. The bench did a great job today to give us the win.

Actually, that's not the way our system should work. It's going to be more of a constant barrage. You've got guys running at you and hitting transition shots. Similar to the Suns but with more depth and more big man contribution.

You should always strive to be a team clicking on all cylinders, playing with energy and intelligence, all game. I think TJ's play with consistantly elevate the play of our starters but when he goes to the bench there is no let up, no relaxation available for the opponent. On comes Calderon with his unit and they go right to work.

I think hockey fans will relate to our rotation this year. Expect a lot of guys (ie 10 a night) to be putting up numbers on the boxscore.

How do you know that?

The entire bench has been revamped.

Also our bench held the lead for a while until they pissed it away. You didn't dominate this game.

Re: Depth

where we lack in star players, we definetely make up of it in the number of quality players

the Raptors are pretty solid 1 through 12, and the internal competition for PT should really help keep everyone motivated.

Minute distribution will be interesting come regular season, with guys like Tucker and Humphries making noise, the coaching staff is gonna have to make some difficult decisions.....but I guess this is a problem that teams want!!!!

Marcus Williams and Wright should be good off the bench for the Nets, so in that regard they did improve thier bench

but the Nets most glaring weakness, their frontcourt, the only notable improvements were Mikki Moore, Mile Illic and Josh Boone. So the Nets better hope Josh Boone turns out, and quickly.

I agree overall though nothing can be worse than what we had last season off the bench. I'm not putting too much weight on Boone hopefully Krstic's rest this summer did some good.

The Nets' most glaring weekness is not their front court. They have two more than capable players in Krstic and Collins. Krstic is going to get better and the Nets have gone to the Finals twice with Collins in the rotation, and in the starting lineup.

They won 49 games with Krstic, Collins, and Cliff. The core is fine. The biggest issue with the Nets this time around is depth. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Nets' frontcourt was not the reason why the Nets lost to the Heat. The Nets lost because it was 5 vs. 10, with Cliff out for most of the series. The Heat had guys off the bench such as Gary Payton, Antoine Walker, and Alonzo Mourning that could make plays off th bench. The Nets had nobody off the bench that series. If the Nets can get guys like Marcus and Wright to step off the bench, they will win over 50 games.

I'll take Marcus Williams, Antoine Wright, and Cliff Robinson off the bench this season. That's an immediate upgrade. I think you might be able to add Hassan Adams and Boki Nachbar to that list of the preseason is any indication.

And I do think Josh Boone will be able to come back and contribute when healthy as well. It is a setback, but the reason why the Nets drafted him was to bring defense, shotblocking, and rebounding, and I do believe he will be able to contribute this season.

And yes, I do like the Raptors depth. Calderon, Bargnani, Fred Jones, and Joey Graham make up a solid foundation for a bench. I am interested to see how Bargnani will do this season. The Raptors have what it takes to make the playoffs, and Bargnani can help them.

Well to be fair, that was after Stern changed the league policy on carrying weapons and KG could no longer distract Zach with his pump, uzi and couple M-16s.

I just want to watch how Sam handles this. He's got everything he'd need to win a lot more games than he ever has before. I think he'll do well. I think the frontcourt has some "Sam" type of guys now, like Rasho, Jorge and Kris. I'm not sure how Mago plays out. Is Sam good at nuturing and developing young talent? Charlie versus Hoffa I guess.

Sam dealt with depth well the last time he had it, IMO... we played a pretty evenly balanced game and our record wasn't too bad... but that's when Vince was tanking and the depth didn't last long, as Lamond Murray fizzled out and Milt Palacio, well... went back to being Milt Palacio. I think we have a more reliable bench this time around.

I don't know it. That's why I used the word "perhaps." I've formed my opinion based on my knowledge of the Nets team and the rest of the league. I rank the Nets' depth bottom 6 in the league. If the big 4 can play big minutes over the entire season, the Nets will run away with the division. At the end of the day, our bench and our team came up on top in this meaningless game.

The Raptor bench will be among the league's best. You can quote me on that.

This team reminds me of the Sacramento Kings when they had the bench Mob but with more offensive skill, that was the first year they started on their playoff runs after being a prennial losers for many year
