Will Mago "break out" this season?
I think he will.
A lot depends on playing time but I think he has the drive and skill to be our second most-played big, next to Bosh. Mago makes plays when he's on the court- sometimes to the tune of fouls, or missed shots- so he's going to be putting up stats when he gets minutes.
Andrea's working hard and he's got the mind for it. How soon will we start seeing him putting up significant numbers?
He very well could have a big game tomorrow. That's the thing with Andrea, he can do damage on any given night, especially if he starts hitting shots and getting to the line.
It then becomes a question of consistency. Again, I think that Andrea will find his game, his role on this team, and stick to it.
I don't think Sam is going to be too stubborn with Andrea's development, as he needs the rookie phenom to contribute more than anyone, so we should see an increase in minutes in the next month or two.

I will be happy if by January we can get 15 MPG on a consistent basis and 7/4

By increasing production significantly from one part of the season to the next. Rookies break out the same as any other players - when they start putting up numbers and making an impact.

He'll be fine. Stop worrying. The season is 3 games old.

Re: Will Mago "break out" this season?
I just wish they didn't play him as Bosh's backup. Right now I've noticed that he subs in for Bosh, I wish they would both get PT at the same time so they could work off one another. I think in due time that will happen, I also think in due time he will at least get to play half the game.
The important thing is that he is taking part in nba practices, learning how to play properly and playing against nba talent everyday. I can't wait till he breaks out.

Yeah . . . thats a good point. If he is being groomed to be our center, which I beleive he should be, he should get some time playing with Bosh.
I predict he will break out, within the first 10 games he is gonna have a big one. I remember when Yao came into the league everyone was really down on him through the first few games, Barkley even predicted he would never score 20 points in an NBA game. He put up a huge one within the first 15 games or so If I remember correctly.
What Bargnani has shown me so far:
- great hands (the and 1 play vs San Antonio)
- good shotblocking instincts - both on his own man and as a helper. There have already been a few questionable foul calls where he totaly stuffed his own man. That IMO is waaaaaay better than just being a help side blocker. Averaging 1 block per game in only 10 minutes
- will shoot from anywhere, will look to score on anyone
- Some good low post moves, and the confidence to use them.
- The beautiful quick release shot.
- Is looking to box his man out
He needs to stop fading away on the mid range game, he has no need to at his height.

Re: Will Mago "break out" this season?
you guys bring up a good point and i think i might've said it before myself: chris and andrea look lost out there together. that could change anytime now, absolutely, but to date it looks nothing like charlie and chris (or even matt and chris- seriously) in terms of carving out a position for themselves on the floor (on offense, primarily) and using each other to find better looks. i'm not saying it can't be done or it won't be done, just saying it hasn't been done yet.
and to be honest, and to bring it in line with the topic of this thread, i don't think we'll see andrea excel at least until he and chris find some common ground. imo, they've looked terrible together in every game- on virtually every possession- and i'm hoping that that'll change soon. but at least andrea will be learning the nuances of the nba game in the meantime. you can tell he's not quite ready to impress the crowd, anyway- but when he is, he'd better have some chemistry locked in with chris bosh or it probably won't work.
for me, i see this becoming an interesting storyline very soon.
peace

Re: Will Mago "break out" this season?
For sure he has a 20 point game, probably soon.
I agree he is getting some rookie fouls attached to him on blocks that vets would get away with. These fouls are hurting is minutes, which is reducing his chance to get on a scoring roll.
I'm not certain he will become consistent this year, but I suspect after the allstar break, he will become a guy who with some regularity scores 10+ off the bench.
It's not hard to imagine him getting a 30 point game this season.

Re: Will Mago "break out" this season?
He will put up the numbers if given minutes, like almost any player in the league. But it's the unaccounted for items that he has to improve, lack of defensive awareness, poor team rebounding concept/

Looks like today won't be the day. Right now his offensive role isn't much more than shooting. I wish he had a little more lift off two feet - he should have dunked that ball on Webber.
