Il Mago ... or Ill Mago?
I was actually content with the drafting at Gnani when things went down (Although I wanted Aldridge)
but man, he's not helping his case ... How the **** does he get 5 fouls in 3 minutes!?!?!?!

Re: Il Mago ... or Ill Mago?
He's definitely more of a "rookie" than I expected him to be, thus far. However, the refs have been hard on the kid so far and everyone is going right at him. He's standing people up and sending them to the line. We knew this was going to be his biggest issue coming into the NBA.
His shots aren't falling but they're all makeable for him.
His rebounding has a long way to come. He can try to block out NBA big men but he doesn't have the ability to position opponents and then elevate for rebounds yet. Some of this probably has to do with foul concerns.
When Il Mago matures a little I think he's going to be an amazing up-tempo big man. I haven't seen anything to dissuade me of that so far. He's not comfortable on the court thus far but who would be with all these fouls?

Re: Il Mago ... or Ill Mago?
The only thing that gets me with Andrea is that he's not some 18 year-old from out of HS kid. Things like evelating for a rebound should be non-issues at this point.
"This guy play against men," is something many would say as to why Andrea could make a quick impact in the NBA...
I still think it's going to be next season before we see much good out of this guy.

I think its harder for a foreign player to adjust to the nba than a top highschooler. the european game is all about zone defenses and getting away with putting your hands on people. give this kid some time and he'll produce, i would have liked to have seen more positive reinforcement from the coach. if it were me last night against the Lakers i would have got tossed after some of those foul calls, how Sam Mitchell collects a paycheck is beyond me.

Re: Il Mago ... or Ill Mago?
I know that Dirk wasn't an all star in his rookie season or that he probably didn't even show glimpse of his current mvp game, but ... What I'm curious about is how long did it take him to get to an all star level?

Re: Il Mago ... or Ill Mago?
maybe because he played in europe? maybe because the nba referee-metro it's different ? maybe six game are not enough? maybe because the coach doesn't let him play? maybe because you use your head only to split your ears????

Dirk was about 19 when he got drafted and played pretty weak competition in Germany. He struggled his first year or two, i remember the first time he played the Sonics(hometown team) he was missing shots that made you wonder is he overrated or what. It took him a couple of years to get to the high level of play he's noted for. What he had going for him besides the obvious talent level was that he had a coach in Don Nelson that was perfect for what he brought to the table. I think what magnifies things there in Toronto is that the team isnt playing very well. People get frustrated and look for excuses, Bargnani with his 10 or 12 minutes a game isnt the problem there. Hopefully things will get better. My guess is the rookie will do fine. As for the coach i think his job is in trouble.

More like 6 months. It's a matter of getting used to everything.
Andrea Bargnani is NOT Araujo in any way, shape, or form.

No way. He needs to develop his body next summer at first and also to learn how to play in the NBA without committing these stupid fouls our shooting when it's time to shoot.
He looks pretty unhappy and without enthusiasm on the court right now...

Re: Il Mago ... or Ill Mago?
How is he not getting minutes when we're 2-7? This is ridiculous... we should be developing this guy, and sitting him 40 minutes a game isn't doing that.
