Raptors hire new shooting coach
Move over Jay and Alex, Dave Hopla has been hired to assist Raptors in making shots.
Good thing, too, we're one of the worst three-point shooting teams around this year.

Re: Raptors hire new shooting coach
Why hasn't anyone been hired to assist the Raptors in making defensive stops?

According to Smitch, defense has more to do with effort than instruction.
I think we've seen evidence of that with our team this year, too. When they are fighting through screens (instead of ducking behind them) and rotating with speed (instead of the first doubling player staying at the other side of the court and allowing the last man on the horn to get an open shot) we are effective.

Re: Raptors hire new shooting coach
I think AP is the guy with the most to gain here. He's got pretty good form on his jumper but it needs some minor tweaking when he's behind the arc.
Good to see a well known shooting specialist brought in, we're a LOT more dangerous when accurate behind the arc.

I cant even imagine where Shaq would be without this guy then. And Marion has one of the ugliest Js in the league, but at least he can hit it.
I think Fred Jones would benefit most from this, his J is so ugly and he doesnt seem to know when to let it fly.
Im glad the raptors are trying to improve their team, but they should hire a coach to help out Bargs, thats where Id spend my money.

Garbajosa is about as good a mentor as you can get for Andrea at this point in his career. His post-game will probably be more of an offseason effort.

The quotes from Allen, kobe and Arenas are encouraging, but is this a joke!?!?!?!?! (Shaq, Marion, Crawford?)
And here I was hoping to read Larry Bird was coming onto the coaching staff when I read the title
oops...
Who's that guy that Bosh said helped him work on his shot in the off season? Same dude?

Re: Raptors hire new shooting coach
I remember Shawn Marion once said in an interview that he shoots the way he does because he jumps "too damn high". Whatever gets the job done I guess. As long as it's a quick release and doesn't gets blocked often, enough practice will make it go in.

Re: Raptors hire new shooting coach
i like this move. i don't know the first thing about hopla but i like the way it's been publicized. if nothing else, this could prove to be valuable by 'fooling' our team out of its collective shooting slump. i think confidence is the main issue here and hiring a well respected shooting instructor to address the problem is a step in the right direction.
peace

Re: Raptors hire new shooting coach
I think this was needed. However I'm not convinced that it will solve all of the raps shooting problems.
I think sometimes poor shooting is the product of 'thinking' too much. I worry that having someone come in and make adjustments to the way these guys shoot could, potentially, get into their heads a bit. Lets hope that's not the case

Re: Raptors hire new shooting coach
this is the kind of high profile hiring i want to see more of.
hopefully this is a sign of things to come WHEN we hire a new head coach.

I hope Ford sends a lot time with him, if he could develop a deadly outside shot, he'd be nearly unstoppable.

I'd rather have him spend time on his D rather than his shot.
