Here's a concept - professional sports is not "real life". I boo the basketball player.

I don't know all the details and I'm not going to pretend to know. But Carter could have at least fulfilled the whole "being a professional" bit and at least played with some passion and some heart. Plus, there was the whole thing about how he tipped off the other team about which play the Raptors were going to run after the time out. That's beyond being unprofessional.

It's not that these people don't remember or realize that it was him who put the Raptors on the map and that he was the one who popularized basketball in a hockey-oriented town, it's just that it's always disappointing when a someone blessed with so much talent, luck, and skill, doesn't make good use of their blessings at all times. Fans who have supported VC and the team during the years probably felt betrayed by someone they idolized.
Excellent post, with the right level of respect and disdain.

Re: Vince Carter

Wow - I basically have stated my opinion on this matter over and over again, and i'm not going to repeat them. Carter is gone and I could see that lots of Raps fans have moved on which is a good thing. I'm sure last night they were quite happy when he struggled with his game. I wasn't happy with that but i'm happy with the win so it was a win/lose situation for me. Anyhow, Carter will always be my #1 favorite player in the entire league.

Re: Vince Carter

let's just move on. I'm going to hate VC 4 times a year, likely less because of his knee(s). Besides those 4 games, I wouldn't pay more attention to him than any other players in the league.

Re: Vince Carter

Geez, all this talk about a guy with no heart, no commitment to the game, and no desire to be the best he could be.

1. Vince has loads of talent, but is lazy and only thinks about himself. He never worked hard on his game or conditioning in the offseason. Only VC would chuck a 3pt shot from 6 feet behind the line when his team is losing and he is 2/11 at the time. Selfish and lazy. I never see any other 'star' look so tired during games.

2. Vince loves being a celebrity and getting the big money, but does not want the responsibility of being 'the man' or having to do the tough work to keep his team in games. Being a star player means scoring big buckets at key times of games, not just in the 4th Q, and not just when the mood strikes you. It means not letting your team get down by 15+ every night.

3. Vince is SOFT and made no effort to play through injuries in Toronto. Notice how he doesn't miss games in NJ with JKidd on his butt and Rod Thorn calling him out. Toronto was too soft on him and he took advantage of it. If VC goes to the locker room during a game he returns the same game. If he starts limping and wincing he stays in the game now. In Toronto he would sit out a week or two. He is mentally weak and needs constant pushing. Not a leader.

4. Vince didn't 'make' anything in Toronto. If we had drafted Jamison or Pierce or Nowitzki the team would have done just as well. Carter landed in a dream situation here in Toronto. We put great vets around him and let him play any way he wanted, taking as many shots as he wanted. Tracy may have stayed if VC was not here and we made TMac the focus.
Damon Stoudamire, Alvin Robertson, Carlos Rogers, Walt Williams, won the city of Toronto over to basketball. And it was Alvin, JYD, Oak, AD, DellCurry, Mugsy, Keon, and TMac that carried VC to any playoff success we had. Don't forget how badly VC played against NY in both playoff years. And how the team went on a huge tear to end the next season without him and almost beat the Pistons in the playoffs.

5. Vince is a loser. He was on a loaded NorthCarolina team and couldn't win. He couldn't take a solid veteran team past a Philly team with no more talent that AI carried to the Finals. He quit on the Raptors and blames the organization for his troubles even though he did nothing for the franchise since he signed his max extension. And now he can't get the Nets anywhere with one of the best PG's in the league and an all-star wing beside him. How much help does he need? Throw in the fact the has never averaged 30ppg in his career while being on bad teams and taking all the shots he wants, never challenged for a scoring title, never been past the second round, and was only an all-star for many years because of fan votes from that one slam dunk contest many years ago.

So basically the guy is a gutless, selfish, loser who was blessed with amazing athletic ability but no heart or desire. The other players in his time are just more competitive and work harder at their games. Kobe, TMac, Pierce, Dirk, Garnett, AI, RayAllen,Cassel, etc, etc.

Re: Vince Carter

Vince is averaging 27 a game, 6 reb, 4 assists, 47%, 38%3p.

so what are you talking about. Judging a player by this one horrible game like he's not human or something. Put yourself in his shoe having to constantly come to the ACC the last two season and getting booed by the raps sell-out crowd everytime he touches the ball. He brought his game the 3-4 times he came here, so he's allowed to have one bad game.

Wow@this long post. It would had been a good read if it were all facts and not biased.
