Pistons, Raps, Davis, Murray, McDyess, Webber, Peterson, and the kitchen sink
Prepare to be annoyed:
Chris Webber wants to play for the Pistons.
The Pistons want Chris Webber.
The Pistons have a full roster.
The Pistons need to make room for Chris Webber.
The Pistons need to move a big man.
The Pistons want to trade Dale Davis because he has an expiring contract.
The Pistons are interested in Morris Peterson.
Morris Peterson is from Michigan, is interested in the Pistons.
The Pistons want to trade Dale Davis for Morris Peterson.
The Raptors want to trade Morris Peterson because he has an expiring contract.
The Raptors want more than just Dale Davis and his expiring contract.
The Pistons want to trade Dale Davis and Flip Murray for Morris Peterson.
The Raptors already have Fred Jones, how will Flip Murray fit?
The Raptors want a first round pick.
Will the Pistons trade Dale Davis, Flip Murray, and a first round pick for Morris Peterson, then sign Chris Webber with the space created on their roster?

I forgot to mention that the Pistons have their own pick and Orlando's pick. Their own will be in the 23-25 range, likely. They are probably willing to trade it considering they will have a better one with Orlando's.

Re: The Pistons, Dale Davis, Flip Murray, Morris Peterson, and Chris Webber
Joe Dumars is a frugal miser and Bryan Colangelo likes to walk away with the most in every situation, or atleast an equal amount based on the teams needs. Colangelo probably doesn't care too much for Dale Davis and Flip Murray, so without the first round pick, this is not going to happen. If Flip Murray does come to the Raptors, then Jones role will not change from the way it has been for the past 4-5 games, with Flip Murray getting Peterson's minutes. Fred Jones could get a couple of peterson's minutes, you never know.
I also don't see why Joe Dumars is so against trading the draft pick considering the teams philosophy on young players, or are they changing it?

I haven't really been reading up on this, I'm just piecing this together from what I saw on HoopsHype today. Dumars is against moving their pick?

They probably are for Orlando's, perhaps not their own. I'm just assuming that if everything falls into place like that then either
1) Colangelo relizes that the trade doesn't benefit us too much
2) Dumars doesn't want to trade the pick
One thing to consider as that this trade doesn't make too much sense. I understand that it gives the Pistons a solid 6th man considering what their bench is like.. but I don't see why the Raptors would bother for a 25th overall pick. I know we can steal someone in the draft, or move up... But can't we get anything better for Peterson.
I'm no sure if Dumars is against it, I probably should have worded that differently, but he could be. Detroit isn't really known to move 1st round picks anyway.. not that they manage to do much with them.

Well Prince worked out well for them so I don't doubt they see value in late picks.
But if the pick is a late one, the Pistons might be interested in swapping their late first with our second, supposing our second is in the 40-45 range. They would be off the hook for a guaranteed contract, giving them a bit of extra money with which to re-sign Chauncey Billups, and accommodate Antonio McDyess if he picks up his option (which he probably will).
Also, Colangelo missed out on Marcus Williams last year, Babcock missed out on Jarrett Jack the year before that and on Jameer Nelson the year prior. Not that we need to draft a point guard that slips in the first round, but every year there is someone that slides that probably shouldn't (all three are decent to good NBA players). And having another pick to possibly package our own with to maybe move up could work as well.

Re: The Pistons, Dale Davis, Flip Murray, Morris Peterson, and Chris Webber
Ok, so it looks like a possible hang-up is the Raptors preferring McDyess, which blows my mind. Not only would he be likely to opt-out, he is a power forward and our team is overstuffed with power forwards, plus he was a walking injury bug. But if we could get McDyess and the first...

Re: Pistons, Raps, Davis, Murray, McDyess, Peterson, and the kitchen sink
I like the trade, with good scouting or poor drafting by other teams a late first round pick can be very valuable. I like the idea of having Dale Davis to provide veteran leadership and as an expiring contract. Flip Murray can be very productive if he can get a good amount of minutes. Although not having Peterson would be so weird but I think he deserves to play with a team that has a chance to contend

None of these trades make any sense for the Raptors, we don't get brownie points for making the Pistons better. The only way I would do it is if we get both Pistons 1st rounders.
