Bosh Free Throw Shooting
I've noticed that in a lot of games that he misses a lot of free throws, and it can really hurt the Raptors in the long run. I know Bosh helps the Raptors in a lot of ways, and he's our best player, but his free throw shooting needs to improve. He wasn't this bad last season. He shot over 80%. This can really hurt us at the end of the games, especially if we're losing by a few points. Especialy if he got 6-12 from the line for example. Hopefully he will shoot better from the line for the rest of the season.

Re: Bosh Free Throw Shooting
IIRC his percentage improved gradually throughout the season last year until it was in the 85% range for the last month or two. I don't know why that is, nor do I know why his free throw shooting is in a bit of a slump right now, but I don't think it is much to be concerned about.

Re: Bosh Free Throw Shooting
I would have to disagree with you, because he's basically the only person in the team that goes to the free throw line, on a good day he'll go more then ten times a game, and if he only shoots 6-10 or 7-10 those four of three points can cost the Raptors the game. Don't get me wrong a lot of great players misses free throws, and I know he cannot always be perfect, but the reason why I am posting this is because he was so good last year from the free throw line, and now he's struggling a little bit.

Nah, not really. He isn't cleaning the glass much anymore.
Also, re: Bosh's free throw shooting--he's shooting about 77% this month, up from his season average, and I think he will be on the happy side of 80% at the end of the year.

Re: Bosh Free Throw Shooting
Ya I think so. I think speedy's made the comment that he started strong on the boards last year and weaker on the free throws. Seems to be a trend. Don't see why it has to be, but if he keeps hitting 15 shots in a row, i don't give a care what he does.

Re: Bosh Free Throw Shooting
Consistency comes with time. He's shooting 75-77% now, which is good. Ford's at 80%, Calderon's at 81%, and Parker's at 79%. So I don't think the Raps are dying at the line.

Re: Bosh Free Throw Shooting
His 4th quarter free throw shooting is on point, so the quesiton of it hurting us down the line is moot. As for his rebounding, two words: team rebounding. Everyone is helping out on the glass now, not just Bosh, which is why his numbers are down, and also why we're winning.

Re: Bosh Free Throw Shooting
he seems to miss in chumks like 2 then come back and nail 2 or 1.
He will become consistent in my mind like eventually be perhaps a 88% shooter from the line.

Re: Bosh Free Throw Shooting
this has been a little frustrating to watch for me, too. i'm glad we have dave hopla on board now to help out but it's hard to be patient. i'm not sure why chris thought it would be a good idea to reform his jump shot to begin the year, and while he since appears to be gradually reverting to his comfortable form from last year, i don't like what that says about his approach on the whole. i think he's thinking too much about things that need to come naturally after a point, and that's probably had a major effect on his free-throw shooting this season.
now, if he were reading this, i'd be quiet, but since he's not i have to be honest: his release on free throws (in terms of their full extension) is not uniformly consistent anymore (it used to be much better, imo). as a result, you see chris bricking more free throws than ever now- occasionally, out of nowhere- sheer bricks. to begin the year, it was frustrating because he was experimenting with a new form overall (although, again, i wasn't sure why he would), but now it's even more frustrating because he's got at least two forms in his head- and more importantly, at least two forms in his arms- and the consistency suffers in that headspace (imo).
i hope coach hopla can help to resolve this because, i know, ignorance is bliss and chris is playing remarkably well right now, but i totally see it affecting games in the future- not in the shaq way, where you know he can't hit them, but in the more dangerous (imo) bruce bowen way, where you don't know when he'll hit them. chris wasn't on this path last year but now he is, imo, and hopefully it can be worked out. i wouldn't underestimate its importance to this team- i think this thread is on point.
peace
