Chad Ford: "I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko"

SportsNation Chad Ford: (12:16 PM ET ) They have a pretty lucrative trading piece with Mo Peterson. I also think teams will be coming hard after Jose Calderon. He's been playing great, but Bryan Colangelo has made it clear that TJ Ford is the guy. That combo could land the Raptors a nice piece to the puzzle. Only thing that might hold the Raps back is Colangelo is being careful not to commit to long term deals to keep future cap flexibility. I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko.

with Jose's value at an alltime high, a package of Mo/Calderon could really yield something nice. It's a lot to give up, but it might be necessary to get better.

Darko would be a great fit here, starting alongside Bosh at center. He's a RFA this offseason, right?

Not a bad idea actually, a Bosh, Darko, Bargnani frontcourt is sick if Darko and Bargnani both play to their potential. I really really hate to see Calderon go though. He has been a big part of Raptors' success this season and I could see him being a solid starter for some teams starting next season and many seasons to come.

Darko just seems apathetic to the NBA.
People claim his stint in Detroit stunted his career development; maybe he just doesn't care that much.

Re: Chad Ford: "I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko"
The Raptors cannot and I mean cannot trade Jose Calderon. He is the teams X-Factor. TJ Ford can go down at any time and if he does and we don't have Calderon on the bench, we can say goodbye to the season.
I say keep the team the way it is for this year. We have a good team. Even having Fred Jones off the bench isn't a bad thing. He has some playoff experience.
We could use some more size but I doubt we'd be able to get anyone that would really help us.

I don't think Calderon is expendable, I don't really wanna see the chicken nugget as the backup right now.

I am in favour of trading Calderon OR Ford in the offseason.. very much so. But not right now.

Can't deal Calderon right now. He's too big a part of the team's play lately and, quite likely, into the future. I can't see how trading him - loud, chest-bumping, hyper-active, good shooter, good passer, decent defender that he is - benefits the team.

Re: Chad Ford: "I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko"
Hard to say whether Darko would fit in offensively. He might clog up the lane for Bosh if he doesn't have the reliable J like Nesterovich. But he is a nice shot blocker inside. He's got almost twice the blocks of Bosh right now. But he's only averaging 5 boards in 23 minutes. Playing with a dominant rebounder in Howard could be hurting that. His FT percentage sucks and his FG percentage isn't great either.
I wanted Darko and Delfino plus filler for Carter 2 years ago.
If we trade Ford or Calderon we need a quality PG coming back. Orlando could give up either Nelson or Arroyo. Seattle could give up Ridnour or Watson and has some young bigs too in Petro, Swift, and Sene.
Not sure if our priority should be a tall athletic SF or a younger C.

Re: Chad Ford: "I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko"
Darko can probably shoot it better than Rasho and has a better range. The thing about Darko coming into the NBA was his size and his ability to hit the outside shot. He has a good hook shot inside as well as we've seen in the previous Raps/Magic game.
You are absolutely right about the PG part though. If we trade Calderon or Ford we will need a good backup pg and those are difficult to find these days. I still think it's better if we finish the season with this roster and do our trades this summer when we know who we can draft and if Ukic can come over next year.

I dunno, never really liked Mihm... He's kinda injury prone, and in my mind, plays kinda soft... Never really saw him play much, its just my mental image of him...

Re: Chad Ford: "I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko"
Look at our roster and see what we have as lock positions for now and the future.
Starters
Bosh is here and holds the 4 spot down....no need for a great back-up.
Bargnani is the 4/5 of the near future.....can play some 3 on offense as well.
Parker is a great 2 guard for a team that is ballanced...
Ford is the starter and is playing well. CalderonIs a player who I feel you don't trade...makes for one of the best point combo's in the league. There are plenty of minutes to go around.
After that we have question marks(in my mind), Rasho is a great filler for now, but next season we need to start Bargnani with Bosh, and that will be at the 5 spot. Garbajosa is in the same boat as Rasho, solid filler, but we need a good young wing prospect(Graham is not the one for this)to develop. Mo Pete has been great as of late and gives us solid 6th man.
It is my thougth that we need a legit back-up center of the future, a young shot blocker sreen setter to spell CB4 and Bargs. we also need the long athletic wing to grow for the future as well. Who do we have to get these players? I say that if we are looking for a good run in a year or two then Bosh, Bargs, Jose, Ford and PArker are untouchable. After that we could move anyone. I don't want to see Mo go, but I would rather that then Ford. Garbo has been a great rookie for us, but if a team in position to make noise this year can give up a legit prospect, then I say pull the trigger.
That being said I would like to ride the season out with what we have. Any moves would be nice to see in the off season.

Re: Chad Ford: "I think the guy they covet in Toronto is Darko"
I think Mihm's soft rep comes mainly from his injury history, which is brutal.
He is one of those inconsistent bigs who will give you some big games and disappear in others. His numbers are not bad at all for a guy who has never played big minutes. He was really breaking out in LA when he got significant minutes but then gets injured again. High FG% as he plays inside, decent FT%, and good shotblocker for his minutes. He has some monster rebound games but his averages are just .....average.
People hated Hoffa but his 3 & 3 in 12mpg was decent production for such low minutes with no role or experience. If Hoff just had the length of a Mihm he would have been a force.
I think we may already have our C of the future on our bench. Slokar is a real talent. I remember watching him in summer league and while he was very skinny the kid had an amazing shooting stroke and was a shot blocker too. If he can add strength this year he could develop into a nice piece for us and replace Rasho and Garbo down the line.
Don't sleep on Slokar. I think he is a more proven asset than Ukic. And if Ukic is for real that could allow Colangelo to move Ford's contract and bring in a star wing player. Raps would be loaded.
Calderon/Ukic at PG
StarWing/MoP/AP/Graham on wings
Bosh/Bargs/Slokar/SomeVet at big spots
You can always find a big body C to take minor minutes and not hurt you. Vets like AD, DaleDavis, JeromeJames, Nazr, Skinner, Mihm, and guys like that will always be available to playoff teams.
