OT: Kevin O'neill close to landing head coaching gig

Kevin O'Neill, who coached at Marquette, Tennessee and Northwestern and has been in the NBA since 2000, is a leading candidate at Denver. Why Denver? After going 4-25 this past season, the school desperately wants to make a splash and for the right coach is willing to pay above normal Sun Belt salary standards.

Lots of bad luck when he came to Toronto. Good luck to him in Denver.

I've always thought his temperament was better suited for the college game anyway.
I don't think he has the patience to groom the ego's of professional players. He'll do well back in the NCAA

Re: OT: Kevin O'neill close to landing head coaching gig
KO is another one of our coaches that puzzles me. if you think about it, every coach we've ever had has failed to land another pro gig after we let him go, with the one exception being lenny wilkens (who arguably deserved another chance even less than the others): malone > walker > butch > (lenny) > o'neill. i imagine sam will probably become exception # 2 at some point, but it leads you to wonder: is that a coincidence? or is that a fair indictment of our head coaching choices to date?
with o'neill, i would say it's even more embarrassing considering the option he appears to be weighing here (university of denver), but that wouldn't necessarily be fair given malone's, walker's and carter's lengthy breaks from coaching entirely after leaving the raps. it just seems like our coaches of the past have indeed been cursed after coming here: not only did they fail to find another nba job, they couldn't easily find a job to their liking anywhere.
university of denver for a northeastern guy like kevin o'neill? i might be the only one who feels this way but it just seems like this must be the--- very--- first--- offer to land on the man's desk since being fired by the raptors- and certainly the first since carlisle let him go in indiana.
peace

Didn't Malone find an assistant job very quickly after he left us. But your right, in that no one ever got a head coaching gig other then Lenny
It's hard to assess whether Butch Carter was a good coach. I think he was and would have had other opportunities, was he not insane. His run at GG, his suing of Camby, probably blackballed him from the league for good.
Kevin O'Neil has burned bridges at every university he left, and his last run at Northwestern was brutal. Not too surprised that he is not getting a great gig anymore.

Re: OT: Kevin O'neill close to landing head coaching gig
Glad to hear, he was my favorite of all the Raptor coaches.
