Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
I have been thinking about a few of the threads recently with respect to off-season free agent acquisitions. Most of them relate to the 2 and 3 positions - where we think it really takes a new guy to make us a championship caliber team.
My question is, that puts AP and/or Garbo on the bench. Considering these guys have both been starters on the team, and have helped lead the team to 1st in the Atlantic and contending for 3rd in the Conference, does anyone think they might be a little upset if they have to be on the bench?
I think at this point its clear MoPete will be gone in the off-season. He wants playing time regardless of what kind of salary we offer him.

I don't think they'll mind if they'd come off the bench. They're great class act guys, never thinking about personal stats, just thinking about the team and winning games. I'm glad we picked them up in the offseason.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
I can't see us getting someone to play infront of Parker, he is the defensive glue guy that every team needs in a starter....he also can hit the open shot and handle the ball. Garbo would be the guy I can see coming off the bench, he can play multiple positions...able to back-up the 3,4, and 5 spots.
We may see Barnani get the starting nod at the 5 next year. This would bring down the the playing time of Rasho and create plenty of pt for Garbs.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
I agree that Garbo and AP are class acts!
I also think AP is the glue of this team. He hits clutch shots, and plays the opposing teams best player. So if we keep AP as a starter, its really Garbo that moves to the bench (also fine by me)... and realistically, i think Garbo would be fine with that too as long as he gets some decent minutes.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
I don't think starting matters as much as finishing. If Garbajosa's hitting his shots and getting his boards, I don't see why he wouldn't finish the game. Parker's good for his shots, too, and he'll finish the games unless there's a significant upgrade. Both could handle coming off the bench with ease.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
They both signed 3 year deals I believe, so have only 2 more seasons left. So I see things going one of two ways.
Either they get traded to a top contender for a young piece or draft pick, or they gradually get their PT reduced if we can bring in proven NBA talent that deserves to start ahead of them. Either way they should be happy if they get to play decent minutes on a winning team and make good money.
Remember the Knicks/Raps trade that sent Camby out for Oak? We could be in the position of getting that kind of value for a Garbo. Also the AD/Bender pick trade. Imagine a team like Atlanta lands Durant in the draft and decides they need a Garbo type player to be their glue and lead the young guys. They could decide to lose MarvWill or Childress to make room for Durant on the wing.
You never know.

Drooooooooooooooooooooooool. That sure would suck for Garbo though.
Although I doubt Atlanta will ever decide they need a guy to lead the young guys.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
A little off topic here. But I don't think that Garbo is entirely happy here. He is a very middle of the pack player who will likely see his playing time decrease over time.
I don't think those things bother him...AT ALL.
But I do think that he may be a little home sick. I just don't see a real spark in his eye the way I did at the world champs. He was a star in Europe, that is his home, that's where his family is from.
I know this sounds bizzare, and I've avoided posting this for some time.
But I sincerely believe that he might be regretting his decision to come over here. Correct me if I'm wrong but he isn't making a lot more money being here. And his impact, although valuable, isn't substantial.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
I heard Garbo talk about his NBA experience during a fan590 interview. According to that, playing in the NBA is like a dream come true for him, but then he might be exaggerating. I don't think the 2 of them mind coming off the bench. Especially Parker who has bounced around from NBA to Europe and should be happy to be back in the league. Garbo is suppose to be the ultimate "team-player". It will kind of go against that if he refuses to come off the bench for the good of his team.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
We're not going to get someone to go infront of AP... he's our lock defensively. I don't think Garbo will have a problem coming off the bench as he's stated many times in the past that individual accolades mean nothing to him. I don't like Garbo starting anyway, he's too streaky. Bargnani starts at the 5 and we can bring in a swingman we'll be set to make a run for 1st in the East.

Re: Will AP or Garbo be happy being back-ups?
I am VERY dissapointed with Garbo. AP is starting to become the player I kind of expected him to be, although I did think he was a 20ppg but I think I just overated his offense. I am 100% content with him on offense, especially the great 3pt shooting he has been doing this new year.
Garbo on the other hand, ****.
He was a euro MVP player, stepped up when Gasol went down and brought gold. HE has shown NOTHING of that to me on this team. His 3pt is *** and he plays too soft. He looks lost on offense and doesn't crash the board enough. The best thing I like about him is his defense, but he is undersized to guard the 5 and his post defense is not enough (mainly due to his size). I had a lot of hopes for this guy, but he is quite dissapointing. I wouldn't mind losing him. I think the only reason I want him to stay is because he wears 15.
