Re: Garnett on SMitch
here is what garnett has to say:
Quote:
Ball movement is ball movement. Sam used to always preach, even in practice, preach about moving the ball and being in spots and teaching guys how to play. It's no surprise to me that they know how to do all that stuff."
Garnett then laid out how to counter Mitchell's attack.
"If you have good weakside help, then nine times out of 10, that neutralizes the pick and roll," Garnett said.
"If you have an aggressive guard sometimes I personally try to trap the point guard and get the ball to a three or maybe a four. A lot of times fours and fives set the pick and you force them to make a point guard decision and nine times out of 10 out of that, they're not good at it ... It all depends on communication and how well your weakside defence is. If your weakside is asleep as we say or just sitting over there, the pick and roll is fully effective."

lets watch to see if tj ford can overcome the obvious tactics that will beat him out on the pick an roll unless smitch comes up with a new offencive strategy to help tj.

Re: Garnett on SMitch
I still fail to see how that relates AT ALL to TJ, but I guess the hatorade got your thought train all messed up. I wonder if you read an article about proper ways to trim your nosehair would you argue that Jose dose that better to? That TJ would just get the trimmers too close to his brain and lower his already horendous IQ? At least that what it seems like to me.

"Hatorade" is pretty funny

If your opinions were only more balanced then they could be more respected. Sure you think Jose is the better poitn guard which is fine, but you say nothing positive abotu TJ. It's always he sucks! He sucks at this too! You can't respect that.

Re: Garnett on SMitch
Back to the article.
Its interesting that KG mentions forcing the 4s and 5s to make decisions. This is actually our greatest strength and area where the mismatches we create are most effective. We WANT the ball in the hands of Bargs and Bosh and Garbo. And that is what allows TJ and Jose to come off those screens and NOT get immediately doubled all the time. With Hump and Graham at the 4 its not going to be as effective however and I did notice Minny and another team jump our guards pretty hard.
Pick and roll is the toughest play in basketball to defend. You have to either 1) switch men and jump the guard, 2) trap the guard, 3) trail the guard over top the screen, or 4) go under the screen and try to pick up the guard on the other side. If the guard can hit the open shot behind the screen the play is virtually unguardable. And if the man setting the pick can also shoot the D is almost helpless. It's impossible to take everything away unless you have great athletes that can switch quickly and still not be in a mismatch situation on a drive or postup.

Re: Garnett on SMitch
^lucky777s .... if you were the opposition coach how would you defend against ... (a) tj ford an (b) jose calderon ... on the pick an roll ??
when the raps get into the playoffs the defences will stiffen up on both tj an jose. which pg do you think will be able to best physically stand up to pressure defence in the playoffs?

Re: Garnett on SMitch
How you defend it depends a lot on the personnel you have. And it will change depending on how the individual Raps players are doing in the series. Who is hitting shots, who is missing shot, and what play is hurting your D the most. In a series teams are charting everything and will play the percentages.

Re: Garnett on SMitch
I just spent the last 10-15 minutes reading every post in this thread, this is what I think.
I like Jose as a player more then I like Ford. Ford is doing a great job for us as our starter, he puts pressure on the other teams point guard, he forces them to play "D" for 90 feet. He has also shown that although he is small he can cause problems on "D" himself. Look at what he did to Ben Gordon.
We have a great situation with the two guys we have, they bring different types of games to the floor, and that alone makes it tough on other teams. I may think that Ford's game is ugly, but I can look past that and see the good things he does for the team's benefit.

Re: Garnett on SMitch
^^billfindlay10 .... so you like Calderon AND Forderon cause there different styles of play confuse the opponent.
but what about the other 4 raptor players who have to adjust to the differences? in your opinion who runs the team better ... Calderon or Forderon .... !!!!
