Situation with Darko
I don't know a whole lot about Darko, so forgive me where I may make some errors:
* 7 footer from Serbia
* Unrestricted (or restricted?) free agent from Orlando
* Colangelo tried to work a deal to bring him in at the trade deadline
* 22 years old - still very young
Is he a possible under-study to Rasho if we wanted to keep Bargnani at the 3?
Will Orlando let him go? Do we figure that Colangelo is still interested in him?
Let's here the scoop, and whether we think Darko may one day play in a Raps uniform.

Re: Situation with Darko
The Raptors don't need Milicic. They have Bargnani and Bosh up front. If anything, the Raptors need a banger down low, someone who doesn't mind staying on the blocks getting rebounds. There were too many times this year when Bosh was the only Raptor fighting for offensive boards; I imagine that gets tiring quickly. Humphries is a nice energy player and doesn't mind doing dirty work, but the Raps could use a legit 7-footer to help him. I think someone like that should be the priority over Milicic.
Also, for the record, he's a restricted free agent this year.

I don't know much about Darko either but from what I hear, he is a back to the basket player and does go after rebounds, prolly not enough. I don't know...

Colangelo tried to acquire Milicic? According to whom?
Anyways, Milicic will get paid too much, and the team that signs him will regret it sooner than later.

Re: Situation with Darko
Yeah, if it was a cheap gamble then you go for it but it seems Darko will get a fairly big contract offer from someone. Minimum would be full MLE which ORL would just match. That's 5yrs/39 mill or something.
If more teams had cap space he would be guaranteed a 4yr/44mill deal.

The guy is too much of a headcase that I wouldn't risk it. Besides, we won't be able to sign him anyway. We don't need him.

Overrated and terrible. Would people please stop suggesting this? I mean, this is getting old.

The thing is that he's NOT a back to the basket player. He's a shooter. Which is why he and Dwight Howard (who is a back to the basket player) are perfect compliments.

Milicic has a baby hook down in the box that is money. According to 82games.com about 76% of Milicic's points come from inside scoring. He doesn't really need to compliment Howard since Darko comes off the bench.
It's not saying much but if he indeed becomes a Raptor he will be the best back to the basket player. He has gotten buff since his rookie days and now actually has decent size even for a center. However, he does have attitude problems and seems to be a whiner when it comes to playing time. With Raptors' "Team-First" philosophy, Darko wouldn't fit that description despite he's from Europe. Plus it's likely that he'll be paid 8+ mil. If it was a 2-3 year deal it might not be too bad to take a gamble, but if it's anything longer, that is way too much money to pay for an unproven player. We've seen it time and time again with people overpaying for big man that ends up not playing any due to ineffectiveness.

Re: Situation with Darko
Not sure how he's a headcase or a whiner, all guys want to play. He does shoot the faceup jumper occasionally and sometimes they actually go in but he's more effective on the block. To me his game doesnt fit with a Dwight Howard as much as it would with a Kobe Bryant or a Dirk Nowitzki.Very good defender also. Not a fit for the Raptors though. My guess is someone will want to do a sign and trade with the Magic and they might go for it.

Re: Situation with Darko
^ Just as an example... do you remember the game against us where he got thrown out for repeatedly arguing fouls and getting up in the refs face?
I think he is damaged. He was hyped like crazy while riding pine in Europe, then got horribly mishandled in Detroit. If last season was supposed to be his 'true' rookie season, he was mediocre in every regard save for shot blocking. Doesn't show a lot of potential IMO.
But on the topic of money, Kwame Brown got a big contract at about the same stage in his career. Their story arcs are pretty similar, actually--which is a bad thing.

Re: Situation with Darko
The Raps have very little chance of acquiring Darko. He would have to come via trade and I don't see Bryan conceding significant assets to sign him.

There may still be some good ball in Darko but he won't be playing in Toronto.
