Yaroslav Korolev 6'9 SF

former #12 overall pick of the Clipps, only 20 years old

we knew next to nothing about him when he came out of nowhere and was promised to be picked by the Clipps. Now a couple years later, we know just as little

any takers???

Re: Yaroslav Korolev 6'9 SF

I checked out his career high stats, and they aren't even close to big. Something like 12 minutes in a game was this seasons high, 6 points I believe. He really hasn't showed anything yet, he could come on the cheap, but for good reason.

Re: Yaroslav Korolev 6'9 SF

i haven't seen him play in the nba. however, i watched korolev play a few times before he was drafted. i liked him. he was the best player on the floor except once when he was a non factor. (that was against sergio rodriguez who played spectacularly, btw). i actually liked him a lot; thought he was a great prospect. korolev made the game look easy and was a play ahead of everyone. he showed good spacing, solid agility and speed; when he was agressive he hit from all over, boarded well and made smart decisions: when to pass, who to pass too, when to shoot and showed a good stroke. i think he's as big as tay prince.

maurizio spoke this year about him coming over too early. he mentioned monya too, btw. (wonder what's up with pavel?) the read from mg wasn't one of too much excitement [he could have been faking]. internet chatter has linked him to the raptors a lot his year. even thought that has seemed to have been just fan hypothesis, its been buzzing for a while. if korolev can be the guy i thought he could be, we have a great signing and a future core piece. i'm a taker.

Correct, both are Russian.

I'd still favour Luke Walton over Korolev.

only difference there is luke walton commands the MLE, while Korolev would likely be looking at league min

The only difference?

What about the 10 points and five rebounds more Walton averages? Or the fact that he is a starting small forward on a playoff team who could be entering into his prime.

Korolev is seven years younger and could be ready to have a breakout season similar to what Walton had that season this coming year. It's an interesting idea and if this was last June I'd probably be fonder of the idea but at this point, I'd prefer to add ready-to-play guys then have to wait for a player to mature.

Don't forget that Korolev has played a total of 34 games. It just seems like he's a little further behind other possible swingmen in terms of developed skill set and I'm not sure this team has the roster spot or minutes to really develop another player without giving up on another. I guess Graham has had his kick at the can but I'd still prefer him to Korolev.

*I hope the above post made sense. I'm having a party tonight and are trying to come up with a special drink. So far it's Watermelon Smirnoff Vodka (1.5 oz) with Perrier (equal part) and a cheap No Frills brand Freeze-E.

Re: Yaroslav Korolev 6'9 SF

on the topic of looking for a SF ... how about Rawle Marshall? He showed good potential back in college. His game is very similar to Josh Howard, but got stuck behind him in the rotation at Dallas. Wouldn't mind giving him a look. Anyone knows his wherabouts ?

got traded to indy. a free agent this summer. i think he's restricted.
good eye. there are a lot of 'second draft" players out there. trick is finding them and putting them in the right situation. (second draft being the signing of a player that did little as a rookie -maybe because they came out too early, were stuck behind someone, etc.- but still have "draft pick" upside.)

His knock on him on draft day was that he'd been dominating in a junior league though. Can't take what he did before the league seriously.

Re: Yaroslav Korolev 6'9 SF

Walton would be good.

Rawle Marshall would be OK, but wouldn't cost much.

Korolev is hard to say. Never seen him play. Even Marshall in his limited run in the L has shown something. Yaroslav could be on the verge of breaking out, our he could just be about to find out that he is mediocre and heading back to Europe.

Colangelo has found good deals on under the radar swingmen before - James Jones, Boris Diaw, Raja Bell. I'm sure he find us somebody good.

I agree with Walton he is more polished than Joey G and would push Joey to play better.
