Raptors interested in Theo Papaloukas
Several sources here at the camp said he's mulling interest from a number of NBA teams, including the Miami Heat, the Detroit Pistons, the Atlanta Hawks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Phoenix Suns, the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers and the Toronto Raptors.
Buh-bye TJ!!

I'm pretty sure he's going to Miami. Toronto has a guard coming over this year already, his name is Roko Ukic.

Re: Raptors interested in Theo Papaloukas
It's too hard to trade a BYC player. Ford isn't going anywhere.
And I'm pretty sure Theo won't be able to guard most NBA PG's, so he's likely going to be used as more of an off-guard.

how is ford byc? i think that's a misconception unless colangelo himself has said it somewhere. the raps weren't over the cap when he signed and have not been over the cap since (as his extension begins to kick in now). so while i'm unsure whether byc status is determined by whether you're over the cap on the date you sign or the date your deal (in this case, extension) begins, it doesn't appear to matter: the raptors weren't over the cap on either.
i really don't know how he'd be byc. maybe someone else has some better info.

Re: Raptors interested in Theo Papaloukas
^ something about a financial incentive if you're traded after you signed, so the team that gets TJ would have to pay him even more than his current deal. did I get that right?????

BYC says "if you re-sign a player and give him a big raise, then for a period of time his trade value will be lower than his actual salary."
|
I'm under the impression that Ford's trade value is less than his actual salary, but I might be mistaken.

Usually the salary used for comparison is the player's actual salary. But under either of the following circumstances, a different salary is used when comparing salaries for trading purposes:
- The team is over the salary cap, used the Larry Bird or Early Bird exception to re-sign the player, and the player received a raise greater than 20% (unless it's the minimum salary).
- The team is over the salary cap, it extended the player's rookie scale contract, and the player received a raise greater than 20%.
If either of the above apply, then the player is considered a base year player. A player remains a base year player for six months, or until June 30, whichever comes later. When trading a base year player, the salary used for comparison is the player's previous salary, or 50% of the first-year salary in his new contract, whichever is greater.
