Bargnani for Durant?.....Would You? Could You?
Who would swing 2006's number one draft selection Andrea Bargnani for the expected number 2 selection Kevin Durant in the 2007 draft?
This thread has been done over on the Blazers forum and last time I checked Roy was actually beating Durant in the pole 27 votes to 24. Now that's homerism!
So what do we the crazed raptors fans think of the trade?
Thoughts?

Re: Bargnani for Durant?.....Would You?Could You?
I agree Durant would be my choice...
I just do not get the man-love for BRoy over on the Blazers board... Bargs is obviously going to be better than Roy and Durant will be better than both there homerism is downright awful sighting BRoy being a nice guy as there reason for all voting for him. Crazy gang.

Re: Bargnani for Durant?.....Would You?Could You?
Gnani can become somebody real special, but I love Durant, so Durant it is. Although I was starting to love Gnani this year.
I tank every year on NBA 2K7 just to get Durant and he is unstopable!

I voted Bargnani.
I mean even I can bench 185 lbs and I'm no where near in shape.

Re: Bargnani for Durant?.....Would You?Could You?
I would argue that the correct question would be would you trade Bosh for Durant. While Roy, like AB was a rookie - he is the face of the Portland TrailBlazers, while AB is not (yet?).
You can argue all day long that AB will be better, is better, is prettier, can walk on water or whatever - the issue is that Portland fans identify Roy as "the" team. He is the leader of this team and we have come to think of him as the one that the entire team revolves around. It seems to me that Rap fans would consider Bosh to be in this position for their team.
If you read the thread on the Blazers forum you would have seen that many Portland fans (myself included) do it for emotional reasons. It also helps that it seems we will have one Greg Oden to anchor the team in addition to Roy and friends.

While this may be true in your mind, to the rest of the league last year's Blazers were still Zach Randolphs team you do remember he averaged 23/10 don't you?? So really BRoy is much like ABargs.
Bosh for Durant... = NO
And to negate your post further next year's team will be Greg Odens. BRoy will just be a semi decent roll player for years to come.
Take that you Blazer fan muhahahaha

Grow a few inches, win the Naismith trophy in your freshman year, and you'll be drafted too!

Given that the issue seems to be that Portland fans value BRoy as much - it seems important that it is what Portland fans think about whose team it is, not what the rest of the league.
Given the rumors that Randolph is on the block but Roy is not - it seems that Portland management seems to value Roy (and Aldridge) as the core of the team, not Zach.

So all of a sudden Rap fans are just as homers as Blazers fans are? Not trading the "face" of the franchise for an amazing prospect. How interesting.

That's the beauty of being a Blazers fan this year, isn't it. We can live well with the knowledge that even if we do not get Durant we still get a "twice a decade" center prospect in the draft.
BTW - I am not sure Roy plays monopoly so I do not know if he is a roll player, but I suspect that as a basketball player he will be more than a role player. It will be nice to watch a young team with a lot of potential with a core of a potential great center, good PF and good SG in Oden, Aldridge and Roy.

Re: Bargnani for Durant?.....Would You?Could You?
ok, i'll take the bait. you don't need to read this if you don't want to.
#1: in terms of choosing between one player and another like this, as andalasian said, it's not nba live. there are other things involved beyond skills and talents that determine whether a player's (and his team's) future will be successful in a market or not. in the real world, that has to play a role in the decision. i know it's not as fun for us as fans, we'd rather keep it simple- "bargnani can bomb the three like no 7'er in history!", "durant might win the dunk off next year!"- but reality isn't so simple and basic.
for that reason, i think toronto would be the most likely of any team in the nba to prefer andrea to durant. it has little to do with their games. we may feel (as the blazers seem to about roy) that the team has been building around bargnani for the last year, and there's value in having seen that one year pass. durant would be starting from day 1. would we be willing to take that step back in order to ultimately move forward (maybe)? it's a debate.
#2: i'd take durant, man. this also has very little to do with their games. andrea bargnani has yet to convince me that he can handle life in this market. that's a critical issue. and when i say "this market", i'm thinking partly toronto, partly north america. regarding toronto, you get the feeling that the man is irritated (like we all are) by the ridiculous media culture we have, the probing, the backstabbing, the scripts, the fiction, all of it. personally, i was born in this country and i can't stand it. i bet you can't either. it must be the hardest thing to grow accustomed to- especially for a person like bargnani, who's coming from an entirely different world.
i mean, i understand that pro athletes are used to living away from home, and i don't want to generalize either, but there's a reason why italians tend to stay within their country's borders: 1) they probably like it; 2) it's habit for the national culture on the whole. italian soccer players, for instance, tend to stay in italy far more than players from other nations stay in theirs. how many italians in general do you see on the international scale? it's just not many at all. there's not as much interaction between them and the world as there is between virtually any other western country and the world.
i think a player like bargnani might leave. i don't say it with an emotional undertone or anything, i just think it's quite possible. it depends on how he grows over the next few years. at some point he'll reach a plateau as a man where he'll know how he wants to go on living, and with that option to move home sitting in the back of his mind (as it will be), it's not inconceivable that he'll leave the fortunes of canada for the domestic security (and relief?) of home. i'm not saying that with an expectation for andrea specifically as much as i am for italians in general. and again, i know, generalizations are dangerous. they don't always apply.
now, i know the argument, "toronto has the greatest italian population outside of italy- little italy!" just like i know how people talk about "greek town." as a rule, the people who talk about greek town as resembling greece and little italy as resembling italy are not greek or italian. they're canadians who simply want to believe it to be true, and want to think that it can be by just saying it. that never works, but we (as north americans) tend to be the ones who fall for it, over and over again.
italians and greeks who come here for vacation or work are subjected to the pain after awhile, after their initial euphoria dies down and it gets more boring. public figures like bargnani don't see the end of it, not with the fans who meet them on the street every day ("toronto's like italy... right?!"), nor with the media that won't leave them alone ("toronto's like italy, huh? how's it feel to live at home again!"). i think only exceptional people can deal with that, and i have yet to see evidence myself that andrea can be included in that group. but he's still young. we won't know for a couple of years.
and for those who argue that toronto is like an alternate italy, i mean, i couldn't agree less. even if it were, i would stay away for the sake of staying away. if i went to europe and was told endlessly about the great "little canada" that exists in, i don't, zurich switzerland, for example, i would stay away. would you want to go there? i'd be scared for my life! "little canada" would either include people who pretend to be canadian and are not, or people who are canadian and have such trouble adjusting to their new culture that they force themselves to take the easy way out and "retain their roots." neither one is healthy, imo. it wouldn't make me (or you, i'm sure) happy to see hockey sticks for lightposts, for example. i'd find it disturbing. and while it's probably different for bargnani over here, i imagine it's not wholly different.
---
with that in mind, i'd prefer durant. i think while our team is strong and relatively deep, i don't think it could survive the loss of a player like bargnani without receiving substantial return. that risk alone would cause me to prefer durant- seriously. i see it as a very real risk, quite frankly, and would act quickly to resolve it should we have any inkling that it would happen.
peace

Zach is on the block because he can bring more back in the trade and has been rendered useless with the upcoming play of LMA and the expected income of Big G... So your point is useless.
Also you can hardly compare Broy as the face of a franchise with a player of Bosh's ability, even through your Blazer Homer Blurred goggles you must see there is a wealth of difference in the quality of the players.
I am also looking forward to seeing your Blazers come up over the next few years. Your a lucky franchise gettin G.O no doubt about that. Hopefully we can see some Raptor/Blazer NBA Finals
