Re: Pietrus would've accepted our offer, GSW wouldn't have matched...
Well, the summer isn't over yet. If the roster we have today is the roster on opening day, I am not impressed with Colangelo's summer.

How many swingmen does this team need?

Personally, I'd take Mo Pete's D over Kapono's D. Kapono gives us interesting offensive options, but defense is our priority IMO.
Still, I'll give BC the benefit of doubt here, and wait until the season starts to reach a conclusion. Thinking outside of the box clearly worked for him last year, so signing Kapono over Pietrus might just work ... even though it defies all conventional logic.

If you switch Pietrus with Kapono, the Raptors would've have Pietrus, Parker, Delfino, and Graham. 2 to start, 2 off the bench in their rotation.

with only one of them being a great shooter.
i would have loved to get pietrus, but don't forget it would have likely taken a 5 year, 32 million dollar deal, or whatever the max MLE deal is...AND golden state might have matched (hindsight is 20-20)...leaving us out in the cold, with kapono possibly (likely) already signed by another team

Pietrus has always been better than Jared Jeffries IMO. Jeffries is a 6'11 SF who has no skills whatsoever and hasn't improved since he was 19. Pietrus is a 6'7 SG/SF who attacks the rim, shoots the three and plays aggressive. They play nothing alike.

I guess it depends on what you'd rather have, a hustle player or a shooting specialist.

I think that was the point of acquiring Delfino (along with not giving up on Graham) and signing Kapono. We could potentially have both.
Also, regarding upgrading our wings, I definitely feel that Kapono is an upgrade over 06-07 Morris Peterson. The people who are talking about how great his D was must be referring to his other seasons and must have missed last year's games. Add Delfino to the mix and I think we did the best we could to upgrade the 2/3 without sacrificing any valuable assets.

Our main need was a SF. Kapono is a SF.
What are you talking about?
I mean yeah, there is a little bit of a logjam, but we could easily dump Graham, Dixon on a team or just waive them IF need be.
And Yeah, Mo-Petes defense on the perimetere last year was eclipsed by that of Parkers, Garbos, and even Graham.. He's already declining, so I wouldn't be happy if we resigned him.

Re: Pietrus would've accepted our offer, GSW wouldn't have matched...
I like the idea of getting more athletic but I understand the value of adding one of the best shooters in the world. As noted above, I don't think Pietrus is much of an upgrade over Joey. Pietrus hasn't shown a great feel for or understanding of the game either and doesn't have Joey's midrange game. If we didn't have Joey, I think BC would have made this move instead.
Golden State also opted for basketball savvy and shooting - Bellinelli.

Really? He had the MLE and no draft picks and we've added:
Delfino
Kapono
Baston
Moon
I wanted depth on the wing and that's what BC added. What kind of player do you want?

Re: Pietrus would've accepted our offer, GSW wouldn't have matched...
I would of love to have Pietrus I've always liked him since he joined the Warriors, I believe that he is an amazing player, but didn't get minutes in Golden State because of J Rich, so he didn't really have time to shine. He will shine this year if he's a starter. I believe that Pietrus would be a better fit in the Raptors then Kapono would be, but hey Colangelo is human, and he might of did a mistake here, but Kapono is still a good player.

Did Colangelo drop the ball, or was signing Pietrus a Jared Jeffries-type MLE risk that wasn't worth taking?

My Take:
Before all the moves, Sam said they wanted to get more athletic. They did not say where, ie what positions.
Listening to BC and Sam, the Delfino trade and the Baston signing certainly fall in to this category.
Had the Delfino deal not gone down, things might have been different. BC did say he was mainly intrigued by restricted FAs. But BC seems really excited about Delfino for his "Better than Mo defense" and slashing ability. I think Delfino is the same player as Pietrus in BC's eyes, costs less for now, and allowed us to upgrade the perimeter shooting.
But that's my take.
