Isiah Interested In TJ?
http://www.flyonthewallsports.com/rich_text.html
Quote:
July 15
Strangest Rumor of the Week: Isiah Thomas inquired about the availability of TJ Ford. Isiah views TJ as a future replacement for Marbury. But given TJ's a BYC player, a 3rd team would most likely have to be involved.
|
Very interesting.. New York has some interesting pieces.. but the only one I'd be interested in for TJ is David Lee, but they would have to add someone to make the contracts work. Would you guys think about that deal? I certainly would.. David Lee is the absolute perfect fit at SF.. hes a very agressive defender and rebounder, very tough and athletic as well.
Then again, this could VERY well be complete bull****..

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
i now have serious concerns about that website's credibility.
i would also love to have david lee, but i think it would take another piece...not sure who it would be.
either way, i suspect Colangelo will let them play it out for point guard of the future this year and possibly make a trade down the road.

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
Lee is more of a PF. He was a better fit next to Curry than Channing Frye was, and with Zack Randolph coming over his minutes will be cut. I don't think he can play the 3 spot at either end.
We gave up a potential 20/10 PF to get TJ so I don't see giving him up for something less. TJ should get us the star wing player we need if we do move him.

I have my doubts about Charlie V ever being a 20 and 10 guy. But I suppose we shoud give him a healthy season to judge.
Agreed...Lee is not a SF

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
Lee played the 3 at times but I think that was more IT's experimenting, it went pretty well actually.. I think Lee, Frye, Curry line up had A LOT of success.
It is too bad that Knicks don't have any players we could use. They seem to be loaded with undersized PF, which is no good to us. Curry would solve our problems in the paint, but I don't want him in a raptors jersey. Crawford? Q? With Kapono over, I don't think they are that much of an upgrade at the 3, they cost more and I'm not sure I like them either. If IT brings another team in the mix that could yield us a solid C or a solid wing, RJ? NJ could use some of NY's frontcourt, balkman/lee/curry/zbo... Problem is it's inter-division...
Would salaries work in terms of TJ to NY, RJ to TO and any of NY's bigs or combination of them to NJ?

I think the keyword is potential.
I woudlnt' be surprised if CV records 20+/8 or 20+/9.
I doubt he gets 20ppg in MIL but I think he has the offensive IQ to get it.
At worst, I think he can do 18/8.

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
SFs in our system need to be able to stick that perimeter shot - thats why Kapono was brought in...
Lee cant do that so he cant work as a SF for our scheme...he can be a great backup for Bosh with his agility and ability to carve out space in the key, but he is not a SF...

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
i'm still waiting for someone to show me how tj's a byc player. the byc notion makes sense (was in fact created solely) for teams over the cap, while the raptors signed tj to his extension well before moving over the cap. unless there's some info written between the lines in cba 05, he's simply not byc and any potential trades involving him are not nearly as complicated as some would make them out to be.
peace

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
I can't believe you're discussing getting a defensive hustle SF from the Knicks and noone's mentioned Balkman.
Ok, both he and Lee are practically untouchable, but hey, at least Balkman fits perfectly!
And that would have to be a threeteam deal, why would Toronto want Marbury?
What other teams are desperately in need of scoring pg's?

How well is the Knicks Starters vs NBA Team Starters? 60%? 50%? 40%? or are we waiting to see by being optimistic because we have a new additional player in the Starting lineup that we assume Stat sheet record says he is better with this Knick roster than the guy he is replacing?

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
Now that I think about it, I don't think Ny would be the best trade partner.. Not only are they in our division, but they have a glut of bigmen, and none of them would fit in our system.

Re: Isiah Interested In TJ?
David Lee doesn't fit on our team right now, he wouldnt get a lot of minutes, and he's better suited at the four, and we already have Chris Bosh at the four, and I don't want him to move to the five again, and Ford has tons of potential, and even though we have Calderon, I still like Ford as our starter and Calderon coming off the bench. One of the best 1-2 point guards in the league.

byc means base year compensation. i have no idea why it is so hard to trade them...ie. what byc actually means, beyond what the letters represent.
