Add Dalembert to list of Canadian NBA players
Nash, Magloire, and now Dalembert.
Sammy "is expected to be sworn in as a Canadian citizen today in Hamilton" according to Mike Grange of the Globe & Mail.
Dalembert is expected to take on a starring role on Canada's national team, coached by Leo Rautins.
It was a convoluted process but give credit to Leo and the national team reps for making this happen.
(Could Magloire be next? Ha! I kid, I kid.)

Seems unlikely, but I'm not sure. Nenę has been a Brazillian national for more than a few years now.

I think there was something about his handler/agent being from outside of Toronto, but not sure there has ever been any discussion about him playing for Canada.

Nash doesn't owe anything to the NTL programme. He put in his time and he did more for the programme than any player before him and likely any player after. At this point in his career he has to protect his back so he can fulfill his obligation to the Suns. He is practically exempt from criticism for non-participation if you consider that the organizers of the programme fired his friend and long-time head coach Jay Triano for no good reason without consulting either of them.

Re: Add Dalembert to list of Canadian NBA players
Well this is some good news....I never thought it would get done.
Sam will go a long way in making this years squad much more legit. Carl English has been playing well, add Denham Brown to the mix and we have a solid wing rotaion. If we can get some seady point guard play, we may be playing in the medal round.

I don't get this thinking. Kidd, Kobe and Billups are all playing and all have logged as many minutes in the NBA as Nash. Kidd has play in international tourney's a few times before and didn't say no this year to protect himself. Nash milked the program while it was good for him. The man gives a lot back but this whole "you fired my (racist?) friend, so I'm taking my ball and going home" thing blows and no one says **** because he's the God of Canadian basketball.

Re: Add Dalembert to list of Canadian NBA players
Nash and Magloire have always received a free ride from the media - they never get hammered for not participating internationally.
Both of them used the national team when it suited them (on their way up - in Magloire's case, at the junior and provincial levels). I don't want to hear about lingering injuries ( go talk to Jorge Garbajosa who is currently killing himself to get in shape to play for Spain this summer), or contract issues (both Magloire and Nash are wildly rich and well insured).
The NBA should make them play - it's good for the global game to have strong teams in all countries. If Yao decided he didn't want to play for China, David Stern would make him change his mind.
If the Canadian media actually took them to task on this - instead of droning on 26 hours of the day about Barry Bonds or which one of the 12 Argos quarterbacks is going to start next game, the NBA might be forced to do something about this.

Re: Add Dalembert to list of Canadian NBA players
I don't have a problem with Nash not playing, although I would love it if he did. Nash would not just be playing summer ball, but he would be the focal point of the team, and that would wear him out. He was team Canada when he played, and I thank him for the time he has put in.
Magloire on the other hand has always had an excuse, so I could care less about him and the National team, he probably wont play this year because Sammy would out play him.
I just hope that our young up and commers like Robert Sacre, Junior Cadoughn(sp), and Olu Ashaolu become regular members of the national team in the future.
