Reggie Miller says he is contemplating a return to the NBA, this time with the Boston Celtics.

Miller, who turns 42 on Aug. 24, played his entire 18-year career with the Indiana Pacers before retiring in 2005. Since his playing days ended he has worked as a television analyst for TNT.

Miller was all set to continue that job when Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers asked him to think about joining their revamped team in a reserve role, playing about 15 minutes per game.

Miller said he is calling friends and peers, seeking their advice and listening to their feedback before he makes his decision. He still plays recreationally, but must determine if he wants to go through the physical and mental grind of an 82-game season. He also wonders how his body would respond to the intensive training it would take to get him back to NBA shape.

I don't see the point of signing Reggie Miller when they can sign Danny Ainge basically for free. I mean, they pretty much give you the same thing on the court.

I heard that Stockton, Malone, Barkley, and Pippen were all considering offers from Ainge too. Along with Ewing and Dominique. Scary stuff in the Atlantic. Luckily Kareem and Magic have already declined.

i'm probably in the minority here but i think this would definitely improve the celtics. i wouldn't be the biggest fan of the move since i don't really understand players coming out of retirement, but i wouldn't dispute the effect to the team. miller's old but his body was not breaking down the way you'd normally expect a fortysomething's to do- and he hasn't been out of the loop for very long, either.

it's interesting to watch boston build this team. they're slowly putting together some depth, and while it does nothing to rival ours (imo), it's not as much of a three-pronged machine anymore. they do have players who can fill roles, who have filled roles in the past, and are not just second round, euroleague, vet min randoms playing alongside pierce, allen and garnett.

Honestly I do not think Miller will do it. He declined a much better offer from a stacked Dallas team last year that looked to be the class of the entire league at the time. The Boston situation is much more volatile and risky for him. It could be great, but it could easily be a bust as well and that would be a nightmare of a year to live through.

But Allan Houston is looking for a shot - seriously.

according to reports, Miller has remained active since retiring, playing in pick-up leagues.....so he's probably still in game shape.

I don't get how people would criticize the idea of having two of the best shooters ever on the same team (Allen, Miller), and most likely subbing for one another.

Miller at 41 has never relied on his athletisicm to be productive, and you don't forget to shoot after 20 years, so I don't get why everyone is so down on this news?????????

Cheap because BOS is not willing to spend more than the vet min to fill out their roster. They reportedly wouldn't even offer Mutombo 1.8 mill.

Only 15 minutes because there is a reason the guy retired at 40. Your body can only handle so many hard minutes in its lifetime before the parts just wear out. We have no idea what Reggie actually felt like his last few years. You dont' retire if you are feeling great and playing great. The money is too big to walk away from.

When MJ came back with the Wiz he had lots of nagging injuries that he never had to deal with before and he was an incredibly durable player. As soon as you take your body out of that regular groove of playing at the highest level it is incredibly difficult to get it back. Pick up games don't prepare you for real nba action.

there are a lot of reasons guys retire, other than their bodies wearing down. Some just are tired of the riggers of an 82 game season with training camp and playoffs, but it doesn't mean they can't be effective in limited action.

MJ is a bad example because he was a guy that relied on his worldly athletisicm to compliment his amazing skill set. when he lost his mobility and vertical, it really showed. Reggie, on the other hand never really relied on an amazing fadeaway or jaw dropping athletismicm. His ability to hit that 3 point set shot never really diminished as his career went on

Well, if Reggie is only going to be camping out on the arc and shoot 3's, I guess he is capable of doing that at least for a couple more years. He wouldn't be running around behind screens trying to loose his defenders anymore though. Also whoever signs him will be playing 4 on 5 on defense with Reggie being too slow to guard anybody.
