I hate the off season
*sigh
I miss the days where I would spend hours a day on this forum and NBA.com and ESPN.com talking about everything and nothing about the players, the seasons, stipulate, bla bla bla...
this is soooooooooo boring.
I would go play ball but I can't at this hour

Re: I hate the off season
as a side note, I can't wait to see Bosh play, I am really looking forward to seeing him play this fall. I just hope he can get to that Melo level atleast. I still think Wade and Bron are on another level, but if he can have a career like Melo, I'd be happy. He doesn't need to be a superstar like KG. Somewhere like at the level of Brand,JO is sweet. It would be nice for TO and TO fans for him to be able to surpass the second tier PF like Brand, Booz, JO, Gasol. just behind Dirk, TD, and KG.
Just so that we dont' have to argue with the other ppl on this board about who is better between Brand, Booz, ect.

Re: I hate the off season
u think he can consistenly avg 25ppg 12rb while shooting near .500 like .450? What is he shooting right now?
In how many seasons do you think he can avg that (I'm guessing a lot of us here think he can do it)

Maybe the question is do you think we need him to avg. that?
Doubt it, I rather see some improved defense.

I wish the offseason wasn't this long.

Bosh shot 49.6% last year from the floor and I think he would've been over 50% like the previous year had he not hurt his knee because he looked like the brace was really affecting him out there when he first came back and had some sub-45% shooting games often
Like Ballistix said, we don't need Bosh to average 25 and 12. He'll put up those numbers often, but they won't be his averages. 23/11 seems about right this year and Bosh is already better than Boozer, Brand, JO, and Gasol.
He's better than Carmelo Anthony as well. He doesn't need to score 28 points per game to be at Melo's level.
KG's career high season average for points was 24.2 and his career average is barely over 20.
I'd like to see Bosh start averaging at least one steal per game and 1.7+ BPG as well as being more assertive on the glass and boxing out consistently.

I think he can do 23 and 12 on 50% . . .but I would like to see Bargnani up in the 17 point range, and hopefully Kapono and TJ will be just behind him at around 15. . I don't think he'll need to put up 25.

Heheh . . .my wife was complaining last night that her beloved "So you think you can dance" season is almost over. I told her not to worry, NBA season is just around the corner. Apparently, she doesn't think I'm very funny.

Re: I hate the off season
i don't mind the length of the offseason so much as i do our endless obsession during the offseason to oversimplify the unknown.
we live in the era of rankings, i know, it's a 365 day thing, but you just tend to see more of them in the summer. but the thing that's especially frustrating is that some people (fans, critics, players, managers, whoever) want to believe that there's only one 'correct' order for them, one 'correct' list.
for example, i saw some poster suggest that milwaukee was going to make a run at the eastern conference crown this year and he/she was met with borderline abuse for having (and sharing) his/her own opinion. i don't like that. it's like, if you don't list next season's final EC standings as cleveland/detroit/boston/chicago/toronto/miami/new jersey/orlando or whatever, something's wrong with you. i guess it's reflective of how, collectively, we appear to be so close-minded. we feel the need to simplify even the future, the greatest of unknowns. it's absurd.
if you want to believe that charlotte and new orleans are going to battle in the nba finals next june in the ultimate payback showdown, seriously, i won't stop you, i won't offend you- i'll encourage you. if nothing else, it would present an interesting argument and suggest a different perspective. why we need to feel during july and august that there's only one answer to anything is beyond me. in fact, if our preseason opinions meant anything, the raptors would have surely been unable to win the atlantic and nearly 50 games last year. one of the things i watch for during every season is the uncertainty, the unknown, the element of surprise, but for some reason, especially during the summer, we want to pretend like it doesn't exist. it baffles me.
peace

Re: I hate the off season
Eh, I'm a fan of other sports like football, baseball, hockey and I'm starting to watch soccer (MLS) so there's never a dull moment for me (sports-wise at least).

I used to be like you . . . I don't know if its my relative old age or what, but over the years I've gone from a general all round sports fan to basketball fanatic. Baseball lost me at the strike, and I can't sit through a whole game anymore. I spent all day Sunday on football up until about 4 years ago, now I don't seem to care about that either. Still love Hockey, but that starts when NBA does . . . That makes my summer sport really just obsessing about hoops.
I think I will try MLS though, I've watched a bit, just will need to pay attention to when they are on.
As for Ballocks' point, I call these the Conventional Wisdom Bullies. They exist all over our society, and exhibit an alarming combination of "know-it-all-ism" and desire to conform. New and independent thought must be rooted out and stomped on! Do not stray from the herd!
I find a lot of the threads over the summer create this sort of thing - certain players (and teams) are branded as "busts" or overrated, or the division winners, or the "real" rookie of the year candidates. The longer the thread gets, the more people pile on to certain opinions, even congratulating others for sharing them. The more of these threads there are, the collective opinions become closer. Others take stock in the 390 people that have already posted that so and so will be a bust.
I agree, I want to see a New Orleans / Milwaukee final. Scratch that, people are watching, go Boston and San Antonio!

Re: I hate the off season
meh, that's what sports fan'ism' is about. What you are describing Ballock is taking the whole fun of being passionate about sports. Sport is about competition, you can't discuss competition without conflict, opposing views, it's all about that.
