Dave Hopla jumps ship

http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/248772

Shooting coach Dave Hopla is going to the Wizards, where he can pull his hair out over chucking wonders Arenas and Stevenson, I'm sure.

Seems like Hopla helped our guards but it is hard to tell to what extent. However, Kris Humphries didn't develop his jumper as expected, Bosh's form got worse, and Mago's 10-15 footer hasn't become much of a factor yet.

Hopla isn't a better shooter than Alex English was, but whether or not our Hall of Famer can pass on his ability is a question mark. In fact, Triano is an excellent shooter as well. Don't know about Evans.

Re: Dave Hopla jumps ship

shooting consultants are nice and everything, but i think the key to their trade is changing jobs (for both them and their teams). i think we had hopla here for long enough to get all we were going to get from his contributions. after awhile, i think there's a danger that the coach (hopla in this case) begins to overlook the fundamentals that are most important to his program, and the players start second-guessing some things, and it just kind of... backfires. for that reason i think these guys are best suited for temporary gigs, like the one he got with us.

but as't coach in washington? i don't get that. seems like the wiz are handing out titles for the sake of handing them out. to my knowledge, hopla has no experience with a clipboard, certainly none in the college or pro ranks. he's as qualified in being a coach as i am in designing toothbrushes- just because i brush my teeth and use what i consider to be effective technique doesn't exactly qualify me as an expert on the ins and outs of the tool, the trade and the science. anyway...

peace

Re: Dave Hopla jumps ship

Hopefully this doesn't affect TJ's jumper which was much improved last year. Jose already had a rep as a good shooter coming out of Europe but struggled due to the heel injury in year 1.
