Re: is derrick martin still with us?
^ No, we just sorta lent them D-Mart for a few weeks. He's back with us now...
And it's just been reported (~20 minutes ago) that Darrick Martin has just signed with the Toronto Raptors...
Quote:
The Toronto Raptors signed veteran guard Darrick Martin. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 5-foot-11 Martin has played 12 NBA seasons with Toronto, Minnesota, Vancouver, Sacramento, Dallas and the Los Angeles Clippers. In 31 games last season with the Raptors, he averaged three points and 1.4 assists.
The UCLA grad owns career averages of seven points and 2.9 assists in 497 games.

Re: is derrick martin still with us?
I think he's going to make a good assistant coach someday. I'd hang on to him.

Re: is derrick martin still with us?
Make him an assistant coach now. Sign another PG/SG to take his place. Don't ask me who, though, because I'm not sure who's out there.

Re: is derrick martin still with us?
Don't understand why (if true) we re-signed him. I remember sweating (and swearing) profusely every time DM came into a game. For a popular leader who supposedly understands the game, he took shots like each one is gonna be his last. Sure, he might make a good assistant, but I don't think he's a good 3rd stringer for the team.

really? i think he's the ideal third stringer. a lot of times he jacks it up because he only gets in once the game is in hand.

Re: is derrick martin still with us?
He lost us the game vs. the Suns at home in Bosh's return (January I think) -- Why was D-Mart in late in the 4th and not Jose???

I recall his 3 point attempt at the buzzer hitting the side of the backboard. Yeah I don't understand it either, just sign him as an assistant and call it a day. Why have him take up a spot on the bench?

Last time I checked 3rd string point guards aren't all that important and also he practically already is an assistant coach. After timeouts you always see him approach a player (usually Ford or Calderon) and helps them out. I think he is great for the team. It never hurts to have a veteran on your team that isn't afraid to pass on his knowledge to young guys. I applaud BC on bringing D-Mart back and hopefully sometime in the future we will see him in a nice suit on the Toronto Raptors bench as an assistant coach.
